Well, you think most/all black & white movies are crappy, so your opinion doesn't matter


Thing is, I watch a bit of everything: from arthouse cinema to blockbusters, from indies to studio flicks, from schlocky B-movies to serious thought provoking ones, from all over the world. Old and new, no less.
So yeah, a certain amount could be considered crappy.

Nah I'm just messing around, I know you watch pretty much everything.

As for black and white movies, I don't like them simply because it doesn't feel like a movie. I find it hard to explain, but everything in those to me just looks fake. From cameras and acting to voices. It just makes me feel uncomfortable.

Da, I know what you mean. Btw have you seen War Horse?

Yeah, good family film. A lot of people hate it because of that. Spielberg does some nifty camera work. Particularly in one scene involving a wind mill.

I still don't get why people think that Shutter Island is a "mindfuck".


Oh, and Donnie Darko is brilliant. One of my personal (recent) favourites.

I had Shutter Island figured out 20 minutes in. But I've heard from a lot of people who were totally blown away, by the plot twists. So while it is a mindfuck movie, the level is not that deep, IMO. It's not a Jeffrey.

Horror movies are by far the worst genre of all and the one that consistently churn out crappiest movies.


And agreed Buck, Shutter Island isnt that much of a mindfuck movie.

Horror is really hit or miss. Always has been, always will be. Even the stuff that actually tries, turns out to be bad. Then there is the low budget B movie stuff, which is never really going for much more than a gore fest with nudity. Occasionally you get some smart films like Let the Right One In or The Last Exorcism, but it's really an overdone genre. Don't get me started on all this "found footage" bullshit that's come out over the last 5 years.

I'd also say that horror is probably the most difficult genre to perform in. Perform well that is.

Once Upon a Time in Anatolia - Great movie. Hadn't seen any Turkish movie except for Akin's Head-On and The Edge of Heaven and I liked this one even more.

If you like Akin, watch Soul Kitchen.

Exact same for me, except I dont give horror movies a chance anymore, they are just too awful, its like all of them are done by Uwe boll. The few good intelligent "horror" movies I call psychological thrillers instead (that truly mess with your mind, the unseen and mysterious being more scary then whats on screen), to differentiate them from the xtreme majority of them that are crap. I know too much about them, or seen them more then I should, because my sister is crazy about this genre (they are so bad I wish she was a cliche rom-com fan like most females I know).

But Japanese films don't really do it for me, Asian cinematography in general. I see alot of people liking South Korean flicks, I've yet to watch a single good second best korea movie to date.
