Right, I guess that's my cue to talk about the last crap I watched.

Boarding Gate - Beats me how this ended up in the official Cannes selection. Story that makes very little sense (if any), miscast leads, shonky direction, ...

Fast & Furious 4 - I liked the first movie & was lead to believe that this was somewhat of a return to that. It wasn't. Pretty boring flick. With the acting on show, it's no wonder that (most of) the leads' careers are pretty much dead.

Also watched a movie recommended by Martin :D - One Missed Call. He didn't lie about it. It was horrible in every way. The unintentionally funny moments didn't even save this one.

Baby Mama - Really enjoyable & quite funny chick flick. I don't know what it is about Tina Fey, but she rarely does bad movies.

And am I really the only one here who loved Zodiac? Granted, it's a very slow movie, but I loved every minute of it. The atmosphere was just brilliant.
Crap is an understatement.

I watched The Blind Side yesterday and was overwhelmed. The movie is truly emotional and really draws you in. I don't know how much of the story is true and how much dramatised it was, but the story is truly remarkable and heartwarming.

I just wonder though, how much racist the movie is, in ja5per's eyes.
Was Sandra Bullock's performance an Oscar winning one?

@ Buck; I also loved Zodiac. My second favorite Fincher movie after Fight Club.

Well I don't know. She was good but I don't really get what was Oscar worthy about it. Her character was a controlling but kind, determined, woman. She did it well but I don't think the role was a demanding one at all.

The lead character had a much harder job and gave a very convincing performance, not Oscar worthy but definitely a powerful performance. Kind of reminds me of that huge guy from Green Mile.

I see. I asked it because I heard that many believe she didn't deserve an Oscar for that character.

The way you described the movie, I can't wait to watch it.

I dont even know who won anything in the Oscars (there is even less interest when all of the movies are mainly very new "Oscar" season flicks you barely had time to see yet). Only thing I want to know about is if Christoph Waltz won best supporting role (dude was insane in Inglorious Bastards).

It is still important enough to bring tears to the eyes of the Cinema master, Scorsese, when he finally won his Oscar.

i dont know about the "cinema master" bit, but even if he were, his particular needing of recognition amongst a certain politicking group of characters with debatable legitimacy gives no logical credibility to said group; i.e you can be a great cineast and a loser

but it made Scorcese cry :touched: :p

I love the Oscars, they're great, but some of the movies that have been awarded these past few years have been downright SHIT.

I heard from numerous sources that 'Shutter Island' wasn't too good. I don't want to give my reasons why yet since many people haven't seen it and I don't feel like spoiling it... for the time being :D

that "meat parade" they call the oscars are a joke, any cinephile worth his salt would disregard that crap as you would miley cyrus flicks
It's an awards show based on a bunch of dudes voting for their favorite movies. What do you expect?

Though occasionally someone truly deserved wins.
