I just came back and here's my short and SPOILER FREE review

I rest my case.
Really? It premiered yesterday here too and I watched it. Great movie and good fun, but it's basically like every other of the old Star Wars movies (still better than The Force Awakens, which was basically a copy of A New Hope).

And that's what's really bothers me a bit. The movie is praised in a manner which reminds me of the followers of Apple and Steve Jobs. I felt out of place yesterday. Watching the movie in costumes is alright and a fun gimmick, but clapping and rooting during the movie is just too weird for me. I felt like I was in a Joel Osteen church.

I think Blade Runner was a much better movie.

You guys so easily manipulated and give money away. Star Wars is just a money milking scheme. We going to get a new Star Wars movie every winter now? Not original anymore.

Manipulated? It's still a great movie to watch in a big theatre. I love watching such movies on a big screen with amazing sound. Everything else is up to debate.

Hmm... It gives me hope that SW is going in the right direction. Dunno but I really liked it. I understood when people were pissed with The Force Awakess for that reason, but yesterdays movie didn't feel like old ones I think. I think it had many unpredictable moments where you felt like it was going in one direction but all of a sudden it changes. I also liked the minor details that gave a nostalgic sense to it (like new little creatures, casino and that race thingy) so it felt like a SW atmosphere. I also like how they kept the old focus on Leia while the ship still stays amazing throughout the history of Star Wars.

What I liked better compared to The Force Awakenss is simply the storyline that was filled for the whole duration of the movie. You always had something to look forward to, whether that's new characters or some silly details. It had a good story, it was fun and entertaining. I'm happy with that.

As for the clapping and rooting during the movie... :D I can't say much. Sadly I don't go to the cinema often, so I don't know the atmosphere. But we had it too here. I think it's rare but it shows the hardcore geeks that love that universe. They created something huge and even in my small country I get stunned by seeing how much marketing is given into it. We have banners, toys, t-shirts, it's literally swarming with SW things a couple of months before the movie. I've never seen that before. It just shows how much people wank over that stuff. I personally like it (although I always thought majority of old movies were overrated) as I read some of the books as well and I think it's great to see such a huge world created. IMO when episode IX finishes we won't see much rooting and clapping (besides the beginning) as it's going to be something totally different (I mean the story not connected to these chars). There were just too many fans of Han Solo, millennium falcon and other creatues that it literally created a mini sub-culture.

I think Rian Johnson did a great job and I actually love the fact that he was given the role to make a new triliogy which is a different world/period to this one.

Disney Star wars is horrible and a cash grab. They have no respect for the universe that was created, their movies are so bad. Probably won't watch the last movie that came out

Once a year for a movie? That's not much. We get to watch TV shows every year that has 1 full season of 10-13 episodes that last a whole lot more. There are also dozens of super hero movies per year (which is imo disgusting).

I don't mind one bit it's once per year cause it's actually worth of watching and fun, unlike majority of stuff that comes out.

It won't kill the orgininality cause it created something new that set new parameters for genre. Hell, you see Juve every week yet you don't complain about that :p

How so? What mistake did they make to disrespect the franchise?

I'd rather say Lucas didn't respect the universe cause he didn't make a single movie for so many years.

You can't say they are forcing the sale. There are over 250 books of Star Wars. It's such a huge universe that it's impossible to drain the joy out of it.

I pretty much agree. My criticism is mainly about the hype. I don't know. It's difficult to explain. I too find the movie epic, but also overrated considering the storytelling.

But don't you get excited too if you love the universe? I came out of the cinema thinking "I can't fucking wait next part" haha.

I just fucking wish they had the balls to start making The Old Republic because that story is just too epic to skip IMO. Hate to say it but I'd actually like to see some TV show as well :p cause there's just too much stuff.

I love sci-fi movies and I loved Star Wars as a kid, but I'm not a fan who idiolized and followed it with passion. I'm not a movie connoisseur at all, but this movie/these movies seems like they're for the new masses and old hardcore fans.

I'll get back to both of you more thoroughly when I'll have time, for now let's just say that I think Disney bought the franchise for the brand and didn't put much thought in their movies and didn't stick to the particularities of the Universe, they don't seem to know the world inside out. as stand alone their movies are almost okay although not original either but as Star Wars film I find them very bad and poorly done. I used to read Star Wars books and a lot of stories that were written are also much better than what was shown to us.

Sorry btw :D I don't like pissing on someone's fun either.

No worries. You're not pissing on my fun, cause I get why some people find it overrated. I know nothing about all the stories outside of the movie franchise. It just seems like most "real" fans adore the new movies anyway. You're the first one I talked to who dosen't.

I'm not a hardcore fan but I did read a good number of books. I know a good amount of casual fans that also didn't like The Force Awakens

The best one that came out so far in my books. It has a good storyline filled with a lot of action. Story is divided to several characters and you literally can't wait to see what's going to happen next. It has humor in it but imo it's smartly done and not forced like in the super hero movies. Acting is quite great while Kylo was outstanding. There's something in Daisy Ridley's face and I can see her in some next 19th century classic movie. Nobody ruined the movie and 2.5h felt like an hour. It was just crazy. There were also a lot of great battles plus some unexpected paths throughout the movie. I went to the cinema with huge expectations but also knowing it's gonna be good. I just knew it. But hell man, it was a lot better than what I expected. I enjoyed every second of it. Last third of the movie is insane. Hopefully you guys are going to enjoy it as much as I did. I wope up with a smile on my face, haha, and I know I'm gonna see this one again (or several times).
Agree :tuttosport:

Especially when Luke Skywalker gone to full Zen Ninja mode, damn he's became another ObiWan/Yoda.
And why they didn't killed Carrie Fisher character? Since she's already passed away, God bless her soul..
After Han in 1st movie, and Luke in 2nd, Leia probaby will be gone in the 3rd installment

Can't be worse than TFA
It is MUCH worse. I actually didn't hate TFA and cos it had its strengths. Yea it was stupid at times and the script was unoriginal and Mary Sue beating a Sith out of nowhere was just LOL but you got a solid straight forward action adventure with some cool sequences. And TFA didn't shit all over the SW legacy

This one is however had me shaking in rage for two and a half hours

Your mileage may vary

 The Assassination of Luke Skywalker by the coward Kathleen Kennedy
