That movie looks so bad & pseudo-intellectual judging from the trailer
Also not really suitable for epileptics if that intro is anything to go by.
Experimental films like that really don't do well with trailers. It's a 148 minute film, supposed to be a sort
film noir, sci-fi type post-apocalyptic experimental film, with non-linear narrative and demanding a lot from the audience. Total immersion, ya know. Every review I've read seems to suggest it's quite the film and the Iranian director (Ireland based) is super highly regarded in the experimental film community. A couple of my friends at Vancouver Film School put me onto his work a few years ago. Super interesting stuff.
I suppose it depends on what one is looking for in a film. Experimental film has its place. Have you seen any of Chris Marker's work? Criterion just released La Jetee on blu-ray, alongside Sans Soleil. The first is especially incredible, but again, not something most would find worth watching. I suppose there could be a debate on the value of cinema that appeals to such a small minority, but it does appeal to that minority, so it at least holds some worth in that regard.
Experimental stuff is super hit-or-miss for me. Some of it, Chris Marker's
La Jetee, Svankmajer's
Dimensions of Dialogue, Rashidi's
Tenebrous City and Ill-Lighted Mortals, David Lynch's
Inland Empire, Merhige's
Begotten, Cocteau's
Blood of a Poet... etc are incredible films... Many others, not so much. That's why I'm interested to see this one.
