If you think about it, we've only really had "equal rights for all" for about 50 years. The last state to ratify the Emancipation Proclamation was Missouri in like 1995. So obviously we still have race issues and will continue to have them even though they will diminish over time.

i dont see blacks as a monolithic community, but the culture prevalent in inner cities and ghettos is the culprit imo be it for blacks latinos or any other ethnicity if you are from a broken home then you dont have a firm grip on whats real and therefore are easily manipulated by your environment and culture. The moment there is shift in social consciousness from color to culture we will start to see real change.

Might be true....however color is too deeply engrained in countries history. Here are words from the Chief of Justice of the Supreme Court in 1857, read up on that case of Dred Scott (African-American man), apparently it was the final spark that got the civil war going.

As for gun owners abusing their rights relative to the police, I'm not convinced. Stand Your Ground laws have essentially created the same climate among non-police.

Are we talking about blacks or poor people in general? There's a lot the government could have done. They could have kept the high paying skilled labor jobs that fueled the middle class from the 1940s to the 1980s instead of shipping them to Mexico and China, they could have raised the minimum wage as the GDP and productivity grew so that it would reflect the cost of living, they could invest in education and infrastructure rather than the military industrial complex, they could stop campaigning on fear and hate forcing the different American demographics to view each other with resentment. So yeah, there's are a few more things the government could do, not only for the poor but for the rest of the country as well.

I agree with many of those, especially the NAFTA argument. But I was referencing Zach's quote about how they (blacks) should despise the government for "not doing enough." Obviously they have already done enough as the government is completely incompetent in helping anybody other than special interest or the Washington elite.

Race baiting wouldn't be an issue if people didn't have problems with race. The Republican party's so-called war against the white man is pretty ridiculous too. In fact both parties uses race as a political strategy all while claiming the other is at fault. Pretty disgusting, but hey that's modern politics. Where it's better to split people than pull them together.

As for affirmative action, eventually we won't need it. We may not even need it now. But for some, it's too soon to pull off the training wheels.

The "war against whites" is more of a war against Christians and conservatives. Shame on everyone for portraying that only whites can be included in those clubs.

What's sort of amusing is that both the Zimmerman case and what's happening in Ferguson are due to whites killing blacks. But if a white cop kills a white person or vice versa (black cop) you probably won't even hear about it.

But that's far from monolithic. As Enron pointed out in Mexico, when you have the Latinos hating on the blacks and vice versa, it's not like you're talking about a single voice, a single culture.

Which, IMO, is good. Pluralism is the wave of the future, so we're gonna have to either deal with it or hand out tax incentives for white people to have more kids.

In theory, yes. In practice, that's where things get ugly. When Yoshihiro Hattori comes knocking on the wrong door as a Japanese exchange student, there really need to be limits before blowing the kid away.

My concern is that different people have preferences for different statistical math. The price of how many innocents get killed as a tradeoff for how many guilty get shot is a little troubling to me. Deadly force on an unarmed person knocking on your door shouldn't be the rule.

But I also know there are a lot of people I've met at gun shows who believe that the chance of killing just one intruder is worth the tradeoff of accidentally killing 5-10 innocents or family members as the price -- even if they're not doing that direct math.
