We had to use Rugani (our 5th choice CB) in both legs. Of course we should have beaten them (don't ignore the penalty we should have had and the Costa shot against the post in the first leg) but we were a far better team last season than we are this year.

Sarri has also continued to play "shaky, traitorous Bonucci" when we had Demiral and De Ligt both fit. I wouldn't put Benatia's exit down to Allegri, I'd blame Paratici for thinking he could replace him with an injury prone Caceres.

I didn't say Allegri had the perfect season last year but I have no doubt in my mind he would be doing better than Sarri is. Take Napoli out of the equation last year and focus on our results. They speak for themselves, we have far less points, far less goals, far less chances created, far more goals conceded, far more chances conceded than last season. It is clear we are doing worse.

Yeah we didn't have Chiellini for the Ajax game. The thing is in the past this wouldn't have been a problem for Allegri as he would've had a legend like Barzagli or Benatia to come in for Chiello. Wasn't the case last season, primarily due to the fact that he treated Benatia poorly and as a result Benatia was out the club. Costa hit the post and we had a penalty ignored but still we were thoroughly out played, especially in the second leg. Atletico fans could also say they had a goal wrongly disallowed, hit the post and didn't have Diego Costa available. Such are the realities of football.

Khedira is a world cup winner, CL winner, played for football's top teams and Matuidi is also a World Cup winner. For me they are both better than Rabiot and Ramsey in terms of what they've accomplished and what they bring to the table.

Sarri has had to play Bonucci cuz there are no other options. Rugani is meh and Demiral+De Ligt are too young to play together. This is a difficult defensive situation, especially when you are a new manager who's specialty isn't defending. As for Allegri, in my view he brought the defensive conundrum upon himself with his treatment of Benatia.

So far in the league we are worse than Allegri's team last season. But for me if it ends with us on top, imo there won't be anything to complain about.

You defend Sarri but say his specialty isn't defending. You can't just excuse a manager that you are trying to defend from one of the key parts of the game. Especially since our attack is toothless and scoring less than last year. If the rest of our game had even a hint of cohesion and fluidity you could be more forgiving of our defensive shambles but it isn't.

Khedira and Matuidi were both useful in their day. Those days are long gone, I would comfortably choose a current Ramsey and Rabiot over last season's Khedira and Matuidi.

When I said "we had a fully fit Chiellini at our disposal" I meant for the Serie A campaign. Which is why I mentioned Napoli not hitting 90 points.

Benatia issue could've been solved with a proper transfer strategy, but who is there to sign in the winter? And why let it get to that point in the first place. You have a class defender who came off a good season and you instantly drop him for a very shaky Bonucci? That would piss off any defender and is not the proper way to go about things.

Your right every other facet of the team isn't functioning as well as it should. I was just giving a bit more context as to why the defense is performing poorly compared to that of recent years. But at the few points in which the team has ticked (Inter and Cagliari being examples), I've liked what has been on display. And for that I'd like to give Sarri support and time before throwing him under the bus, especially when he is top of the league.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. We struggled to win the league just two seasons ago against a weaker Sarri's Napoli who choked in the end.

I'd like to see how good Allegri's team would be having no Chiello and no world class replacement for him in the starting XI.

sarri didn't lose to ajax, that's the point. no matter that allegri fucking won every single italian competition for 4 years and first got eliminated by a lesser team after 4,5 seasons. so you know, point is that at least sarri didn't lose to ajax!!!11!!!1! and won an europa league, just like some other coaching giants such as malesani, juande ramos, sanches flores and houllier. we learned recently that sarri even made ronaldo the beast he is!
