I dont know if its Sarri's fault and he has instructed the players to play the ball to the nearest available player rather than try a long through ball, but several times today there were clear situations where our player with the ball had an opportunity to try a bit longer ball cause we had free players up front but the player decided to play a short pass. I think it was Bentancur and he could have passed it to Ramsey and i remember Ramsey got annoyes cause he was really in a very good position. Is this something our coach is instructing our players to do or is that our players seriously lack vision. I would say its a problem with vision.

Oh come on, it was a perfect performance, the levels dropped a bit because of us leading 3-0.... Its different being on the field down there than watching it on TV or from the stands.

Bentancur maybe didn't see him, maybe it was crowded in front of him etc, etc...

Sarri: "Congratulations on how I am using Ronaldo? You have to give congratulations to his mother who made a boy like this..."

Have some thoughts after the game. We have to ditch the 4-3-1-2 its just not good enough. Currently the team has been winning in spite of the formation not because of it. We are much better both in attack and in high pressing the opposition with a 4-3-3. As Sarri is not willing to play a 3 man backline it severely limits our options with this current squad.

Going forward, the ideal starting lineup should look something like this:

Woj

Danilo-De Ligt-Bonucci-AS

Ben10-Rabiot-Pjanic

D Costa-Dybala-CR7

In the current setup/ tactic I feel that Pjanic is wasted at regista. Other midfielders could complete the range of passing expected of him and someone with more strength could do a better job defensively as well as holding up the ball under pressure when in transition. Currently Pjanic is not able to forward pass as effectively as we might like because opposition teams know to block his passing lanes so what is the point of even putting him there?

My suggestion is to swap him with Rabiot. We saw today that the first goal was completely created when Rabiot had the ball in the middle and used his strength and skill on the ball to pass a Roma player with ease then play the ball forward into open space. Pjanic doesn't do this.

Just imagine Rabiot holding up the ball under pressure or getting past a player then squaring it to Pjanic who is in much more space at LCM to effectively use his passing range. Teams won't be able to so aggressively press the regista position anymore. Would be a completely different situation to so much of what we've seen with Pjanic at regista and matuidi at LCM.

If costa is tired/ injured then play Bernardeschi at RW. I know people hate bernardeschi but he can certainly high press and that's like 50% of the job.

Sarri: 'Ronaldo such a specimen!'
By Football Italia staff

Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri won’t take credit for Cristiano Ronaldo’s scoring run against Roma. “Give credit to his mother for creating such a specimen!”
The Bianconeri swept through to the Coppa Italia semi-finals against either Milan or Torino with a 3-1 win, decided by Cristiano Ronaldo, Rodrigo Bentancur and Leonardo Bonucci.
“We had a good first half, but didn’t come out of the locker room for the start of the second,” Sarri told Rai Sport, referring to the Cengiz Under strike.
“After a little while, we again got into it against a team that has a good passing game. Gigi Buffon made some saves that confirm he’s still in good shape and a top level goalkeeper.
“Douglas Costa doesn’t have 90 minutes in his legs yet, but seemed to be clearly improving. Ronaldo is in extraordinary physical and mental condition, scoring with remarkable consistency. On an individual level, I don’t see what Ronaldo could improve. Perhaps in some defensive moments.
“I cannot take credit for Ronaldo’s current form, you can only give credit to his mother for creating such a specimen!”
Danilo limped off during the first half, to be replaced by Juan Cuadrado.
“Alex Sandro was coming off a muscular problem and Cuadrado had flu, so we’re a bit short on full-backs at the moment. If we really need to, then we can use Blaise Matuidi there.":lol::lol::lol::lol:
This weekend will see Sarri visit the Stadio San Paolo as an opponent for the first time since he left Napoli.
“That was not a normal experience,” he confessed. “It was something that really touched me deep down. It was, on a human level, an extraordinary bond.”

Yeah. Can you imagine him receiving the ball from our GK while under pressure?

Marvelous.
funny cause right now he is often receiving the ball in far more congested areas of the pitch. I am all for trying Matuidi at LB, most especially if it prevents him from playing further up.

For the most part Sarri doesn't let the LB get forward anyway, might as well make the LB a player with mad hustle and tackling.

This is why I was a huge advocate of buying Chiesa in the winter.

We are in desperate need of a winger. We have 3 wingers in our current squad: one plays as right back, one is always injured, and one is in horrific form.

Matuidi loses the ball often and the last place you want a player losing the ball often is in defense.

No thank you.

he already played as a left back vs spal and iirc he did all right.
SPAL oozes quality all over the field too. Perfect litmus test :p

Its not like Matuidi would be our starting LB. He is the only option there at the moment if Alex Sandro is unavailable.

I wouldn't have a problem with him filling in there to give Alex Sandro a rest in a Coppa match or a home league game against a bottom half team. He did fine against SPAL last season.

lol I'm amused by this.

Did well..against SPAL...last season.

We witnessed a transformation apparently.

Anyway, screw those responsible for putting us in a position where we "might" need our worst on field ball handler as an emergency solution in defense.

Would rather throw Bernie there. Lesser of two evils for me.

I don't understand what's wrong with that. Do you think he would do a significantly different job if he was asked to fill in again at left back this season against say a Brescia or Lecce at home?

Nobody is saying he should be a starter or that he is an ideal LB. But if we have no other options and if Alex Sandro needs a rest before say a CL game I would have no problem if he filled in against a lesser Serie A side at home.

I agree with you that we shouldn't be in this position and should have more reliable depth at LB and RB.
