yes entering as root works well but the normal user konsole just doesn't seem to behave properly.

Oh I just remembered why I took it off. I have backed up my /home to my external harddisk and when I was copying back the files, many files were locked and couldn't be read. I tried to chmod the directory on the external disk so I gain access and read them, but it didn't work.

Hmm..don't have any external HD's but I'd reckon they're more of a trouble in Linux. What filesystem is that drive?

Linux to the bone, ey? :D

Did you try going in PCLOS Control Center>Mount points>then click the expert, or advanced mode, there are options there to turn on/off read/write and some other stuff for all connected disks.

No, but I am installing PCLOS again :D
Good boy. :D

The CC is the first place to look here, the terminal is second. ;) Probably read/write wasn't enabled by default for externals. Who knows maybe a simple click was all it took.

So you played around with it before?

Disclaimer: If the answer is yes, there will be loads of questions come summer. :D

Edit: Bah who am I kidding, I will ask anyways :p
No, I haven't. Right now I live in a student house, but back home I would just connect the laptop to the tv and didn't need a media box, all the content coming from the laptop anyway. But if you wanna record tv, mythtv sounds perfect for you. It's supposed to be really cool.

thanks
