My only experience with the system was for a couple of days and I think it was kind of outdated, so perhaps they changed to grub. But what I am sure of is that there has been problems with it detecting other linux partitions, I experienced it first hand, and read a lot of people complaining about it. Hope they fixed it :)
Yes, there were some boot problems in the test releases, but they've fixed it all now. The final should have been after TR3 but because of that they made TR4 and after a few months released the final which seems to be completelly bug free. At least for me, and from what I've read this final release is getting great reviews from everywhere.

Damn you Vla, I always have wanted to switch to Gentoo, but I know its gonna be hard and I need some time.

Just before I install PClinuxOS a question occurred to me. I have three partitions, one has Ubuntu, the second is /home for Ubuntu, the third is empty. I want to install PClinuxOS on the third, so the question is, could I make the 2nd partition /home for both OS's? That would be kinda cool, especially that one is Gnome and the other is KDE...is that possible?

Yes. But you should be aware of one thing. Applications somehow change the format of their configuration files. So say gimp 2.4 might save in a different format than gimp 2.2, which means that if you go back to using 2.2 you may not be able to use the config. But this is fairly rare.

Yes, it works on the Live CD without any problem, the interface is recognized as ra0 there. After installation it fails to start up ra0 at but you can still configure it but it won't start.

When I do iwconfi, i get lo, ra0, sit0 and wlan0_rename where wlan0_rename is my wireless adapter.

Now how to start it, make it start at boot, stop trying to start ra0 and failing and making it connect to my SSID with its WEP is something I've been on since yesterday.

That sounds like a real pain in the ass.. Have you tried going to their IRC? Boot with the live CD and connect from there, that is if you're using wireless to connect to the internet, maybe someone can help you out.

Oh well, at least you can enjoy a smooth running OS while you're troubleshooting. :D

When Rami calls Mandriva childish it is not because of the colours and layout, it is because it is intended to be a simpler distro but in fact it gets out to be more complicated (krångligt is a nice word to describe it in Swedish)

PCLOS has inherited this. It is childish; I made the wireless work, it was a simple thing to do in the end but everything else is just not correct. I am installing Sabayon now, back to portage :smoke:

Silly people. :disagree:

It is the epitome of linux, it just works. I have everything installed out of the box, everything is simple and straightforward, I don't know which part you considered to be complicated.. And the OS is running just super-smooth, I'm sticking with this baby for a while.

the booting time of Sabayon was teh LONGEST i've EVER seen! it took so long that i could've installed Ubuntu and botted into it even before Sabayon!

but once inside, it was great! very r3sponsive! but booting was a BIG turnoff, so switched back to Ubuntu!

good luck!

Well, tracking PC Linux OS on Distrowatch makes impressive watching. Having said that though, Distrowatch isn't too accurate...

I am having the worst days of my Linux life.

After I got everything to work on PCLOS (especially the wireless), I got annoyed of the way its konsole behaves so I installed Sabayon.

Sabayon is heavy and it takes a lot of time to boot but it works just well. It detected my wireless adapter but making it connect to the router is something impossible especially when can't find documentation for that.

I booted the Kubuntu Live CD :D again. I am having the exact same problem with the wireless adapter as with Sabayon.

In a way or another I am thinking of going back to PCLOS if I figure out a way to make its konsole behave properly.

What's wrong with it's konsole? I didn't use it much but when I did I had no problems, I just entered it as root and did what needed to be done.
