A huge debate has erupted in Libya about the return of Libya's Jews who were expelled from Libya in the 60's. Here's the story of a Libyan Jew who came back to Libya to revive and old synagogue in Tripoli, he along with tens of thousands of Jews were forced to leave Libya in 1967, in response to the establishment of a Jewish country in Palestine.

The issue has polarized Libyans, with one side of the argument saying Libya is a country with a homogenous people, which is one of the reasons we aren't facing sectarian and/or religious problems ala Iraq for example, the return of Jews could disturb that harmony, the same side also argues that since the Jews are actively stealing more and more land off our Palestinian brothers, why would the Libyan Jews need to return to Libya anyway, and why should we allow them to return to Libya with all what they are doing in Palestine. The other side of the argument points out that we've always said that we wanted to build a democratic, and tolerant country post Gedaffi what better way to do that than to allow the exiled Jews back to Libya, moreover not all Jews are zionists, and they shouldn't all be forced to pay the price for what Zionist Jews are doing in Palestine.
I personally belong to the second side of the argument, the new Libya should be a country that does not differentiate between people based on religion or ethnicity, these people are Libyan and it is their right to return to Libya if they wanted to. I personally don't think this is a subject that should be decided based on what the majority of Libyans think, its a civil rights issue that should not be subject to the opinion of the majority. I also think that in the long term it could be helpful to the Palestinian cause, i mean as a person who believes that the State of Israel should not exist on Palestinian land, the question that always arises, is where should immigrant Jews go in that case? I always answer that question like Ahmadinejad recently did: "home", to those whose home is Libya, they should be allowed back to Libya. Is that not a better solution than them building more and more settlements on Palestinian land
