it may come as a surprise to you, kyle, but the runs a player makes in a game, are taught and directed in training. hence...training. movement, runs, positions, how the team moves as a unit, attacks and defends, and maintains and alters its shape...all this comes from the manager.

its pointless me trying to explain this to you, because if you truly didn't realize that a manager and his coaching staff teach and train the timing and direction of forward runs into a squad, then you are probably following the wrong sport.

I know he can run as i enjoyed watching him run at catania, where he played a very different role to the one asked of him at Juve, asked of him by delneri. I am aware of his apparent fitness problems last summer, then his broken foot, and other niggling injuries which adversely affected his potential form. Still...i felt sorry for him, as when he did play, he seemed always in several minds, not knowing where or when or how fast to run. delneri would have drilled the runs he wanted the players to be making, into the squad during training. this worked out well with de ceglie, whose covering and all round game improved with more intelligent coaching behind him, but with martinez, it worked out awful.

yes, i think part of the reason why he often looked like a headless chicken is because of delneri basically trying to train him in a completely new position. driving forward, making use of a brilliant turn of pace, a few tricks here and there, then go for goal...that is martinez. delneri asked him to run backwards as much as forwards, to tackle as much as attack, to cross far more than take the ball into the box and shoot.
