Let me start this post by saying that Alessandro del Piero is the one soccer player I would try to approach in real life. As a rule of thumb I don't approach celebrities because I know they would see me as just as a fan and because I don't want to disturb them. The reason I would approach Alex is simply that I would like to thank him. As an Italian Juventus star he has given me a lot of moments of joy.

However, I do not like to see people talk about what he has done for Juventus. Let's think about what Juventus did for del Piero for once. They gave him a career. They took a gamble on him. They made him their main man. Had del Piero played anywhere else, including Milan or Inter, he would have been ditched by the Italian public and the Italian NT coach after a couple of not so good years.

He gave Juventus a lot, but it works two ways. Amazingly enough, del Piero's still a very decent player. Even good enough to start a fair share of games for Juventus. But he's demanding a lot at the moment. I know it has to do with status, but thanks to Juventus del Piero was the world's best paid football player at one stage. It's Juventus who gave him a house and a car. So is it that unreasonable to ask for a paycut? Let's face facts, del Piero's slowly fading away, as it should be.

Since 1998: he scored 143 goals = ~ 15.9 Goals per season. During this era Del Piero got injured few times and had to miss alot of games. Including his famous injury where he almost missed out the whole season then went through a recovery period.

I am sure his assists to his team-mates did not change as well. So STATISTICALLY SPEAKING he's doing more than fine.

Ofcoruse you will come out saying Totti scored ALOT more and got himself a goldenboot ..etc I can't deny. Totti is an outstanding player and his performance with Roma was totally wonderful last season. BUT you also have to note that Roma for the past couple of years or so have been playing with Totti as a lone striker. So the whole team is assisting him to score. No competition. Never the less, it was an outstanding number of goals he managed to score, and he does deserve every single penny he's getting.
You are also right, Kaka did single handedly win the CL. But lets not forget the amazing form of Pirlo and Gattuso alotside other players in the team as well including Nesta , you are right still he was THE MOST impressive in the group.

Well, Kaka almost single-handely lifted the Champions League trophy and Totti was rewarded with a Golden Foot for being the player with most goals in top 5 European leagues, something what Del Piero will never achieve again. And he never did. I agree he had a perfect season in Serie B but players such as Buffon, Camoranesi and Nedved are as much as responsible as Del Piero for getting Juve back to Serie A. Nedved even more. So, he should stop thinking about himself and accept a paycut as this is in interest of a club. It´s not that drastic reduce of his wage.

Celtics rookie point guard Gabe Pruitt injured his left ankle during Monday's practice while scrimmaging in Rome. The 32nd overall pick of the second round in this year's draft has been listed as day-to-day. Celtics coach Doc Rivers acknowledged recently that Pruitt has been very impressive and is playing the best of all the rookies.

At the end of Monday's practice, Italian soccer legend Alessandro Del Piero made an appearance and hung out with the players. While Celtics newcomers Kevin Garnett and Esteban Batista are both huge soccer fans who knew who Del Piero was, Batista said most of his teammates probably had no clue. The striker is arguably the best soccer player in Italian history, is Juventus' all-time leading scorer and has won seven Italian championships. After an NBA official explained Del Piero's background, Celtics coach Doc Rivers described him as "the Kevin Garnett" of Italian soccer.

Garnett and Del Piero seemed to really enjoy interacting with one another as they joined in on an interview and took numerous pictures. While Piero kicked the soccer ball around with Garnett and fellow Celtics Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, Pierce accidentally nearly kicked the ball in Garnett's face. It was also interesting to see the 6-foot-10 Batista, who played goalie in his native Uruguay, sheepishly ask Del Piero to autograph a soccer ball for him.

This is Del Piero's last contract as a pro footballer, of coz the man wanna do it right. Del Piero is slowly fading away, ok, i accept it. It's a fact. That day will come for every legend. Well, I will not trying to argue with u how much he deserve to take home every week because that it's between the board and the man himself.
I just wanna get some things straight. I almost puke my lunch out when someone here mentioned how great Ibra was when he was w Juve. Mind you, this new season is the new season that Ibra has since he joined Seria A. and Perhaps Ibra is maturing and also with great players like Cambiasso(i like him), Viera, Figo those stars playing alongside him at Inter, sure he will have a fantastic season and a lot of chances to score. He didn;t impress me much esp in his 2nd season with Juve. Del Piero was great if not fantastic in the season where we got into the champions league final. Nedved was our best player, but i reckon Del Piero came in second. The match against Real will live in my memory forever!! also, in Crapello's 2nd season incharge, he benched DP more and more but yet the stats proved that he was our most effective striker. so, I think you need to get the facts right buddy.
We're del piero's supporters but we're not fan boys. We don;t support just for the sake of support. The man has done so much for the club. I guess he deserves a little more respect from u. From now until his last contract finishes, I don;t mind he being a bench player/sub role but u cannot simply deny what he has achieved/done in the past!!

the Director of Sports of the Bianconeri explained the current situation with Alessandro Del Piero's contract.

"Saying what Del Piero represents for Juventus is unnecessary," he said. "The risk of losing him exists, but we are doing everything we can and we have the intention of reaching an agreement.

The Captain of the Bianconeri spoke about Juve's important 1-0 win in the derby della Mole against Torino on Sunday, which allowed the Old Lady to remain within just one point of Inter.

Alessandro Del Piero is very satisfied following the Bianconeri's win in the Turin derby which pushed Juventus to the second place in the standings.

"It was a derby with the big 'D': hard fought, intense and agonistic just like tradition wants," he explained. "The desire of not giving up was fundamental to reach the win in the final minute."
