It would be an very stupid of the borad to lose Alex, but at the same time Alex has to understand that his career is slowly going downhill He's not getting any younger and it would be foolish for the board to pay huge wages fore someone who's going to feature less and less in the first eleven. Imagine in a year or two he's spending most of his time on the bench but still getting his 5 mil € per year or whatever he earns.

The board cant lose him, but he needs to take a pay cut.

In both way you announced them stupid, it's Alex who is insisting on high wages and refusing their offer. Alex should take the cut, asking 4 year deal with a big wage is like a blackmail, "you either accept or I leave and turn the fans against you" attitude, I am shocked everyone is supporting his action. this is wrong, he should accept whatever the offer is. We already have a big Budget on an average squad, he should be the first to help the club reducing it's wages, then the likes of Zebina and Boumsong should follow his step.

Secco: Alex could leave

Tuesday 2 October, 2007

Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero’s future is up in the air after Bianconeri sporting director Alessio Secco surprisingly revealed he could leave.

The 32-year-old talisman had been expected to commit the remainder of his career to Juve this summer, but contract extension talks met with unexpected hitches.

While Pavel Nedved, Mauro Camoranesi and even David Trezeguet agreed deals, Del Piero’s talks have already broken down once and seem to have hit a brick wall.

Reports suggest that the Old Lady are only willing to offer Pinturricchio a three-year deal with a reduction in salary of nearly 30 per cent, while the Azzurri forward is unwilling to accept less than his current wage.

It had generally been assumed that an agreement would be reached within the next few days as Del Piero’s agent – brother Stefano – is talking to representatives, but for the first time the club has admitted that he could leave.

“There is no need to talk about what Del Piero means to us, but there is a risk that we could lose him,” Secco admitted.

“But we are doing everything we can and we want to find an agreement. All parties want to come to an arrangement.”

Talk of Alex’s disquiet has even started speculation that Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk may swoop to add the ex-Padova man to former Livorno hero Cristiano Lucarelli up front.

Sources suggest that the Kroty would be willing to put a contract on the table that would net Del Piero over £2m per year.

"we are doing everything we can"???

We are talking about Del Piero FFS, we cannot toy with him,
all the world watch us here,we can bench him, we can make him staff,
but we cannot throw away our symbol like that...
No player will ever be attracted and love Juve again, we have always been throwing away our children, even the most beloved ones,
is this the new Juve??? This is how they teach honor and respect?
This is how they pay the ppl that has given everything for this club??
It is already, a great shame, for such a matter to be on the news
and they even seriusly consider that??
they have crossed the lines this time...

Secco is giving the media something to fill the pages, noting else. I know he is not the smartest around , but to let DP leave it will be equal to committing suicide to his short and (un)successful career.

Been there man (neg reps and all ) :dontcare:

I don't want Alex to leave, no one does. Juve still need his services, I am sure the board is aware of that too, they want to keep him, but they can't do anything about this if he insists asking high wages, they got my support in this case, we need to reduce this ridiculous budget. If we don't, we can't bring great players anymore. This case particularly is being done the way it should by the board, he is not a regular player to show him the door because he is not accepting the offer, more Patience!

Though they made a lot of wrong moves in past, but you know some members take either as pro or anti, they don't judge each case separately. We could get the players we brought cheaper, or we could bring better players with those wages and transfer fees, so selling some overpaid players or reduce wages is one of the few options left.

There's a big diff out there snoop.

Del Piero didn't ask for high wages, they're asking him to accept a pay-cut.

And I don't really think Ale's wages is such an issue for Cobolli, they're making big fuss out of it, Alex would not really be a man if he was set to accept another pay-cut for third time in row.
