Interesting club, Andris Vaņins, Nr.1 goalkeeper for Latvia plays there, they've been fighting with FIFA, UEFA, Swiss federation and every footballing body possible for the last few years over a transfer that happened in 2008, when they signed and registered some Al Ahly player who apparently still had a contract with the egyptian club. There were lengthy legal processes with FIFA and UEFA demanding a punishment (transfer ban) for Sion, threatening to ban all Swiss clubs from European action, and in the end they were deducted 36 points last season which resulted in participation in relegation play-offs, Sion won and now are leading the table. They'd have been in Europa League if not for the penalty, but officially they finished 9th last season (only 10 clubs in Swiss league) and didn't qualify for anything. Only the winner of the league qualifies for CL, 2nd, 3rd and 4th clubs play in EL, so if they keep their top spot, passes 2nd and 3rd CL qualifying round and gets balloted in one group with us there's actually a slight chance we might meet this club in next years CL.
