Why am I so good at English???? I'm not! I think I'm terrible comparing to the most of you. maybe you can see it through my idiotic mistakes.

The english that I do know, came from scholl. but as Martin said, learning english from school is nothing. so because I hear english a lot of times, I'm better at it.

I learned English from my father. He insisted that I learn English, despite the fact that I didn't live in an English speaking country until I was 12. Basically, he handed me the Bible in English and told me to read it, and if I needed help to use my French-English dictionary.

Shakespeare, Wow I haven't read that in years.

I believe hamlet was the last piece of work that I read.

It was required reading in my College English Literature class.

Along with Othello, MacBeth, A Midsummer night's dream, Much ado about nothing.

Read a lot of Edgar Allen Poe as well.

That's some deep stuff.

The city I live in is such a weird place....

Everyone start to "learn" English when in kindergarten...formal English lessons throughout our education...we have subtitles with English TV programmes...we are sort of a so-called "international city" and English was the official language here before China took us back.
Probably something to do with Hong Kong being a British Colony? ;)

On the competition I was telling you about I had 97.5/100. :strong: 0.25 points are deducted for every misstake, so that means I only had 2 in a hundred questions :p

    [/super smart]
Oh come on, that sounds like a multiple choice test...

I had to take about 3 blocks of major exams throughout the year, involving essays, creative writing and short anwers. It's bloody hard to score full marks in English exams, especially essays... so i'm still proud of my 94/100... especially since I didn't study :p

Congrats nonetheless, that's great for a non-English speaker

    Where did that come from?

English is probably the easiest language to learn... well that's how I see it anyway. I don't think I know a single person who does not understand english.
He's American. They struggle to learn it. ;)

:howler: They do, don't they? :D

Kalle - whether English is difficult or not depends on your native language. German and Nordic languages such as yours (Danish) and mine (Dutch) are closely tied with English so it's easy for us.

BTW - did you guys know that Modern English doesn't have any closer relative than Modern Dutch?
