    interseting thread.....good observation gray...

most of us do speak English pretty well  :thumb:

It's kewl to see so many Multi or Bilingual people here

    ........

I think English is a relatively easy language.....Maybe the romantic languages are easier because they have more consistent grammer rules (but it depends what your native language is too like Erik mentioned).

but what really helps English seem easier is the fact that it's spoken by many globaly (Business, Entertainers...etc.) so it's easier to learn because we're always exposed to it.

I learned English from my father. He insisted that I learn English, despite the fact that I didn't live in an English speaking country until I was 12. Basically, he handed me the Bible in English and told me to read it, and if I needed help to use my French-English dictionary.
    Tough !!!

Nah, he's a softy on the inside, he eventually gave me lessons.
It is easy to get the impression that you had a childhood filled with studies. You went to a very fine school where you weren't allowed to play football. And then you went to two different universities (correct me if I'm wrong). Plus that you had to read the bible - in english!

It's easy to get that impression becuase it's true. I've studied at many more than two universities, and my parents took my education very seriously, but I'm glad that parents were so strict with me, because if they weren't, I never would have done most of the cool things that I've done in my life.

I can't see what could have been so cool? what have you done?

I would never want to spend my early days on studying. But then again I am very pessimistic about the future. My personal opinion is that your life ends when you are 28 after that you live someone elses life. I live my life now and would never want to destroy it with studies to get some more money when I am 35 and not having a life anymore.

I played professional soccer, travelled the whole world, learned to speak numerous languages, met my wife, joined the army, all becuase my parents made me study hard when I was young.

Well, I'm 29, so I guess my life is over...

You have to study when you are young to build a foundation for your success the rest of your life. I guess some people enjoy their youth more than I did, but it's all relative, I valued the opportunities that I would recieve more than the time I was giving up.

i hear a number of things from you about your dad. each one conflicting with the other like...
My father is not a simple person to characterize, nor are his actions always congruent with his previous actions or rhetoric.

No offence dude, but I don't really see what playing pro soccer and joining the army have to do with study. Maybe travelling the world and meeting your wife were made easier by the fact that u were educated, and maybe the military system's different in Australia, but it doesn't really require much education.
