Juventus interested in Rossi if Trezeguet leaves

Juventus would consider a move for Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi if David Trezeguet leaves the club this summer.

Trezeguet made just two starts in Serie A last season due to injury and a lack of form and is keen to move on.

If Juve can find a buyer, they will switch their attention to emerging Italy star Rossi, who scored twice in the Azzurri's 3-1 defeat of the United States at the Confederations Cup.

Juve president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli said: ''Rossi is a great player. He was crucial in the game against the United States. He didn't play as well against Egypt proving that even great champions have highs and lows.

''The problem arises when understanding what the true value of these type of players are. Had Villarreal sold Rossi after the game against United States they would have made more than after yesterday's game.''

Cobolli Gigli is also a fan of Frenchman Trezeguet and would be sad to see him go, adding: ''Trezeguet is a great striker. If he stays and decides to accept the fact he won't always play that would be great for us.

''If he decided to leave then we would have to find a team that gives him the wages he desires.

Another player to be linked with the Bianconeri this week is Real Madrid midfielder Mahamadou Diarra. And his former Madrid team-mate Fabio Cannavaro believes the Mali international would be a hit in Serie A.

''I would be delighted if Diarra arrived at Juventus,'' said Cannavaro, who returned to Juve this summer after three seasons at the Bernabeu.

''Not only because he is a great professional but because he is someone who always wants to win. Mahamadou is a great player. He is like me, the Cannavaro of midfield. He would be a great signing.''

Diarra, 28, joined Madrid in the summer of 2006 in a 26m euro move from Lyon. But injuries limited him to just nine appearances in Spain's Primera Division and three in the Champions League last season.

I say not now. Splash the money on the defence first and then go look for some sexy signs.

Plus, if we have Diego and Gio....and then we sign G. Rossi, that pretty much spells the end of Del Piero at our club.

It doesn't spell the end for him because when rossi is waiting for his balls to finally drop, DP will be sniping long range ballistic ICBMs and scoring goals like he always does.

Nobody puts baby in a corner.

Del Piero hasn't been offered yet. He is too classy to call Secco out on not offering a good enough contract, if the managers wants him out they'll offer him a shitty one they know he'll decline, and he won't go to the press cause he's too much of a good guy.

Rossi in will shorten Alex's career.

I really don't think it will shorten his career,to be honest.

they could finally have another suppot striker on the squad to give Del Piero a much needed rest once in a while.

If anything, it would lengthen his career as a player.

As a member of Juventus??? Well, that would all depend on what happens when contract negotiations come up, but I can see your reasoning, if that was what you were trying to get at

The contract negotiations isnt about monetary problem, but how long the extension will be. Monetary wise, he will take paycut, it will be like the 3-4th time he takes one I think (he has gradually gone from best paid player in the world to semi-top/medium salary for top players).

Well, its not about money up to a point, though.

He certainly isn't going to play for free, or a wage that is simialr to a primavera player. Nor should he, for obvious reasons.

I was just curious as to how he thought, and in what aspect, would Del Piero's career be shortened if Rossi were to come here

Ofcourse no one would play for free (except Etxeberria, or Tommasi for peanuts), but it wont be about monetary factors at all. As I said, Ale has taken paycuts before, and wouldnt have any issue with taking one again. Especially as he is one of the richest players in the game, has been and still is one of the most marketable atheletes in sports in general.

IMO it will be all about how long the extension it will be, how long Ale wants to play, and how long the board wants to offer him (and if he can still demand star player obligations/minutes still still in waning age in near future or not. IMO more about that).

Every season Del Piero plays an integral part of the team and the coming of Rossi won't affect that I think. I mean Rossi is good, but still not good enough to replace Del Piero. Maybe in a couple years when Del Piero's ready to retire but I don't think they should line up a replacement just yet. Plus they owe it to him to honour his wishes-what with being faithful to the club for oh about 16 years.
