Yes I defended them which is why I said its not the same people who attacked them for penny pitching that disagree with paying 94M for a player now. We don't know yet if we paid the clause or if we agreed a different deal, but if it's 94M its definitely too much.

They know their financial situation and they know if they can afford such a move, doesent mean they should do it. This deal is a MASSIVE one, our anual cost on Higuain will be very high and could restrict us from signing some other players in the future. Higuain is neither a very popular footballer, neither is he young enough to have a resale value to make the deal worth it, or to play here long enough to cost us less Euros per year. From that perspective, this is the most expensive deal ever. Is that really justified for Higuain? I strongly disagree.

As for Cavani, the mercato is still going on, and even him staying at PSG doesent mean we should spend that much on a single player.
#1) Not EVERY player that Juve buys has to have a resale value. Since when should that be the emphasis of a deal? And I understand full well that if you spend 94 million on a player that you would at least hope that there is some resale value. But then again, if you do spend that much, do you ever plan on selling him off?

#2) You, I nor anyone else who is not part of their financial department or accounting know that this could be an impediment on future spending. Their revenues are going up year after year, and the better they are in Europe, which this move was clearly designed for, then the additional revenue streams will follow. This is all conjecture on both our parts

#3) What other strikers were out there? the aforementioned Cavani is not for sale, and the other big clubs don't need a major goal scorer. We did. No questions about it. Our forward line is absolutely vicious, potentially on par with anyone in the world. The last time we could say that was DP-Trez, Pre-Calciopoli. And although the Mercato is still going on, would you be willing to wait and HOPE that another striker the stature of Higuain becomes available, given that our season starts in less than a month? We didn't leave it late this time. Our roster is nearly all set, andif we keep Pogba, then all we need is one more midfielder and we are done with plenty of time to spare

I respectfully disagree Zizi, my good man.

We are overpaying, but that's what happens with getting established stars in a sellers market.

Higgy is worth 75-80 mil easy. People talking about 60 mil are being retarded. He just scored 36 goals and broke an all-time record. He's only 28, and has a good 4-5 years left at top or near top-level and makes us a contender for those years while we search for the next young star number 9. He's a guarantee.

And FFS, this isn't about marketability or resale value. That shit is irrelevant. Especially resale. Clearly the board knows what they can afford and still be able to rejuvenate the team in coming years. They aren't sacrificing 5 years from now with 1 move.

Hence the moves for younger stars like Pjaca and Pjanic.

And Higuain becomes as marketable as the results he helps us achieve. If we win a CL with him or even play SFs or better for the next 2-3 years with him leading the attack he gains popularity and marketability.

It's a results based move any way you look at it. We overpaid by 10-15 mil. Who the heck cares. Our board knows what they are doing, a bunch of know-nothing, armchair analysts on this forum don't.

If he costs 15-20M sure, doesent have to have a resale value. We buy Matri for 18M on 2M net/4M gross wages (no idea how much wages he had here, guesing here), that means if he spends 3 seasons here and we sell for 10M, we dont make a loss. In this case, 94M + 7.5M net wages (thats what was reported), and lets say he stays here for 4 years. We would have to sell for around 54M to avoid a loss. For a 32 year old player, i doubt someone will pay it. So yes, resale value matters

Its a guess, if you have a single player that eats up so much money per year, he restricts your spending on other areas. Doesent mean we will have to spend 0€ per mercato as long as hes here, but could theoretically prevent us from taking one of our targets every year hes here

Do we need a WC striker at any cost? Id be perfectly happy with a Dybala, Mandzukic, Icardi, Gabigol attack. + Pjaca. We never bought WC players in their prime and were perfectly fine up until now, i dont get the sudden obsession here that we need a WC striker to win the CL

I hate this resale talk. People talk about how we can't be viewed as a stepping-stone club... Well then, quit this resale value nonsense, because that's provincial, second rate club shit.

We're a big fucking club and if the board decides to buy a world class forward with guaranteed goals in the prime of his career, while overpaying by 10% ish, I'm damn happy they splashed the cash.

Same deal with marketability of players. Who the fuck cares. That's for clubs that care more about that shit than results, like ManU and other EPL jesters. Transfers are about getting results, not about signing a pretty player we can market for some off-field intangibles.

It doesn't restrict our spending. We all know and the board knows we are losing Pogba in the next year or two which will cover all of Higuain's transfer and his wages basically.

Aside from the fact we can afford to lose money on the occasional player.

And yes Higuain is worth 75-80 mil. The market has changed. FFS, Martial went to ManU for 80 mil with bonuses included. Sanches to Bayern for similar. These are unproven youngsters who could very well flop over the next few years and be worth peanuts.

Pogba is worth over 120 mil. Of course Higuain smack dab in the middle of his prime years at 28, having just shattered the all-time goals record in Serie A is worth 75-80 mil. Don't be ridiculous.

- - - Updated - - -

Nedved played here for 8 years so the cost spreads out through more years. And he was 41M, not 94M
41M then is worth about 70-80M now.

And I'm sorry, why can't Higuain play here until 35-36. As in 7 years...

That right there costs you a 100 million, because the fee for Barbosa at 18 million was only for 40% of his ownership.

And Inter already told us no on Icardi. We tried before we sealed the deal with Higuain.

And Higuain could very well retire with us as one of the top scorers in club history as well. Is that worth less than any resale value?

That was 15 years ago. Inflation puts that at nearly double now. Nedved became a "NEDVED" once he joined us. Higuain is already one of the top goal scorers in the world

Well said mate. Our attack worked more than fine last season, and if I remember correctly, attack wasn't the problem in UCL. Allegri made bad substitutes (injured Mandzukic, and just bad Pereyra vs. Bayern), and our defence, impenetrable defence conceeded shit goals.
Both Mandzukic and Dybala struggled first few weeks of a season, considering that they just got into squad, later it all worked perfectly fine. You don't need a WC goalscorer if you score goals as a team.

Also, Gonzalo had awesome season, but first in a many years. I don't really know if he can pull that off again. Man struggled to score 20 goals per season in RM where he had Ronaldo, Kaka, Benzema and other amongside him..
And dude just has bad luck in big games, especially finals..

What you are basically saying is juventus should turn down the 100% chance to sign Higuain (untill 31st July) for a slim chance that PSG out of the blue purchases some striker (so they are 2 top forwards like last seasons), and that Cavani would be upset enough about it to leave PSG.

Basically, you want us to gamble on something pretty unlikely, and trow away something thats 100% certain.

Basically, you want us to wait untill the end of the mercato and make a panic buy most likely.

I didnt knew someone actually liked that

Nedved deal was horrible too, no resale value :(

It's all about the resale!!
Nedved AND thuram*

Both were 28 and 29

29 and 30 if, you count like they do with Higuain

So, we shouldn't have replaced anyone in our front line, especially with Morata gone?

And I suppose that 29 goals in 2014-15 was just a mediocre season for him at Napoli.

And take a look at what you just said about his time at RM and who he had around him. When would he have been the #1 choice there? Yet he scored over 20 goals in three of the 5 years that he was starting to get serious minutes. And in one of those years he missed 4 months due to Back surgery, but was still on pace to bang in at least 20

Rossi: 'Higuain's Juve for Europe'
By Football Italia staff

Italy legend Paolo Rossi believes Juventus “can win the Champions League and Gonzalo Higuain’s decision wasn’t about money.”

The Bianconeri surprised everyone by agreeing to activate his €90m release clause from rivals Napoli.

“Higuain is a great player who guarantees an important step up in quality for Juve,” Rossi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Now they can really go on to win the Champions League. I think Higuain’s decision wasn’t about money, but rather because he wants to win, not just in Italy, but also in Europe.

“Perhaps he’s the best centre-forward in the world right now, but he is certainly among the top three. I’ve seen him do incredible things, he can score in any way and is a guarantee of goals.

“He’s a classic centre-forward, devastating in the box, but can also combine with his teammates. He’s therefore an old-style striker with the characteristics of a modern player. He’s got good technique, but also physical strength.

“His best quality is keeping his cool in front of goal and the determination he plays with. If he scores one goal, he immediately tries to go for another. His hunger for goals and victories is perfectly in line with the Juve attitude, so he’ll fit right in.

“It’s hard to find a defect in Higuain’s game, perhaps his heading ability.”

The Argentine shattered Serie A records stretching back to 1949-50, scoring 36 goals in 35 games for Napoli last season.

“He’s very different to Mario Mandzukic, so something has to change in Juve’s approach,” continued Pablito Rossi.

“Mandzukic is more generous, but not as effective with his finishing. It is an important resource for Max Allegri to have two such different forwards in the same squad.

“Higuain will score less at Juve, certainly, and will have to share the goals with Paulo Dybala, but I don’t think it’ll be that big a difference. He is at the height of his powers and will settle in quickly.

“Dybala is extraordinary and can play alongside anyone, so I’m sure he’ll form a crazy partnership with Higuain. They can become one of the best strike partnerships in Bianconeri history.”

 wat?

Higuain has scored at least 24 goals in 6 of the last 8 years. 1 of the seasons he didn't was because he only played 25 games. The other was his last season at Madrid when he was starting to be used as a sub for Benzema mostly.

So every season he's been first choice striker he's scored 24+ goals.

So mediocre

The only thing to worry about with Higuain is his big game performances. That's it.
