It certainly not bad but not great either, being just 22-23 at the time isn't an excuse. If we're going to pay 40+ millions on the guy then he better be exceptionally great. A Player like neymar who just turned 20 already have scored 100 goals, Pato manage to score 27 goals in "serie A" when he was just 19 years old. Our very own Trezeguet was the top scorer of the French league When he was just 20.

The way I see it, the player should either be exceptionally great from a very young age (18-19-20) or should consistently have a great goals/games Ratio in "atleast" 2 different clubs before spending such a huge fee on him, Cavani doesn't fit in either.

Thank you
Yet you want to give Matri a chance, as you had intimated earlier.

Don't you think that you are contradicting yourself a little bit here, my friend?

@swag There is always an element of risk, perhaps even skepticism with any player linked/associated with Juve. However, sometimes it's a chance worth taking. Since we are unlikely to get Falcao, Higuain, Benzema and the like, who else would you suggest we acquire if not Cavani?

What about Van Persie?

Some of these demands are ridiculous though, Cavani has been scoring (and performing) against all sorts of opposition. Without slating him because he's only been great at one club, I think I've seen enough to confirm he's got a lot of qualities (intelligent movement, technique).

Noone's taking into consideration Cavani's age. The fact that he's doing better in Napoli than in Palermo, might easily have to do with the fact that he's not a 20-22 year old anymore and he's hitting the best years, gaining experience on the way.
There are players who are very good at young age and keep the same form throughout the career. There are some who rock at young age and then become worse. The big majority though develops with age. There are hundreds and hundreds of cases when strikers weren't really great at 19 or 22, but became much better or even great after that.

For Cavani in particular there is nothing really strange. It can be seen that he didn't do well when he came as a 20 year old in Italy. With time he was getting better and he scored 13-14 goals in serie A in his last Palermo years. Every year, which is natural, he's becoming better and better. He's just 25 now and he recently entered the best years of a player's career.

It's the eye though that should give the verdict. My eye sees a top attacker who'd make it everywhere.

As many chances as we provide our strikers already, imagine when we upgrade Pepe (finally) with a real winger...Cavani will have oozes of chances to score goals, not to mention Pirlo picking him out as well.

Cavani will score goals, his finishing is on another level than that of our current crop. It shouldn't be hard to grasp.

Raul. :p

Cavani would be a major gamble. We might not be able to afford him anyway, ending up instead with the likes of Destro who we'll loan out. :sergio:

If Cavani had a different profile at his other team experiences, I'd be all over him.

That doesn't explain his Uruguay form though. Sure, he's been on the bench a lot. But only two goals in competitive matches doesn't speak too highly.

Don't you think, at only 25, it is still a bit premature to rate him based off of his National team experiences?
