If Platt, Charlton, Hurst and Shearer aren´t English legends, then I don´t know who is.
i dont think david platt is a legend, far from it imo.

shearer was great in the EPL, and just OK on the national/european stage. So hes basically a legend in England.Wouldn't associate him with the likes of Maradona.

didnt see Hurst play, but if ur the only players to score a hattrick in the final then u have to be something.Charlton outplayed the great Beckenbauer in that final so he has to be something as well..( although as a germany fan, i dont like to talk about that final as we feel it should've been the other way around)

They are Legends, englishs are just player

first of all your basis of comparison is futile. are you comparing europe against britian ? if you are comparing countries you can see that most people will be able to name just as many great british players, as players from italy, france, germany, and holland

How about Gordon Banks?

i remeber reading somewhere that journalists couldnt come up with a nickname (like octopus for yashin) because he was just so calm and never had to make amazing saves. however they quoted pele when he said how one time he has a great shot and almost lifts his hands in the air only to find banks getting the ball. pele described it as a "fish jumping out of a fisherman's net to freedom" (or some other water animal)

Ya that Pele header was amazing, there was no way in hell any keeper could've saved it, but Gordon did, Gordon deserves to be a legend hands down! In addition to the others mentioned here, Turk is talking out of his ass tbh.

I dont think so

Legends

Brazilians have Pele
Argentinians have Maradona
Frenchs have Platini
englishs have nothing:P

Italians have DEL PIERO
:D How true! The english media are always hyping up players, but, when you see them play, they are nothing special.

Hurst, Banks, Charlton - is that Bobby or Jackie? - that was a very long time ago!
Gascoigne - definitely not!
Shearer - for Newcastle maybe.
Best - he was Northern Irish. He was a very promising youngster, but the acursed english press hyped his ability & he took it all in & took to living the high-life. Subsequently, he became an alcoholic, which cut his career short. Very sad. It was when the english press started to hype up players that spoiled any chance of english players that may have had talent. Being billed as a top player by the english press is like being cursed.

Diego Maradona cant be compared to any player that ever existed, because he wasnt just a football player, what he does with the ball has nothing to do with what we call football normally. The man is not normal, he is the best player ever existed and is not going to be anyone like him. He is to footbal what einstein is to sciense.
I had the luck of seeing him play live and the guy is unbelieveble... What he did is magic pure magic, is not football is something else, is like listening to pavarotti he is not a singer he is something else... A chosen one someone who came to the world to make people happy.
I had the privilege of knowing him and I can tell you he is not only different to play football he is also a really nice guy, a good person.
In the 90s he made a treatment to leave cocaine in a clinic in my home town, I was in Highschool and me and my friends saw him in a local gym. One of my class mates gave him a golf ball and he started playing with it as if it was the easiest thing in the world ... He talked to us made jokes with us... He made a lot of friends being here and people have great memories of him
Sometimes the image the press make of someone like him has nothing to do with the real person

Daria...thank you for your thoughts and comments about Maradona. I enjoyed reading them. How amazing that you got to watch him play live and that you also met him. Quite a memory to have.
