Del Piero "bad luck" was that his posibilities had been so overrated in the past so a lot of peaple expected from him something he could not give and that create a lot of sense of disappointment and even hate around him.

I think he had a great personality to go on... many players (and others sportmens not just soccerplayer) to who it happened to be so overrated by media and than disattended the expectatins just could not stand the pressure and disappeared... Del Piero instead went on and at the end also if he never schowed what he was supposed to be able to do he had a long and good careear.

His good luck instead was to sign that contract in 1998. If Juventus waited one year to do that decision than he wuould be surely dumped. Instead with all that money thay had to spend 4 him 4 so many years they had to give him illimitaded chances and now he ended up becoming again important 4 the team, also if not the most important of course.
They could quite have easily have sold him so I don't quite see your point here. What you are trying to tell us is the most ruthless buisnessmen in football kept a player on such high wages and instead of selling him , they gave him so many chances to show that he is a good player when it would be easier for them to sell him

Well to be fair you have never liked the guy so I don't expect anything more or less from you as you take every opportunity to tell everyone on here how he is not the most important or valuable player at Juve , that its either Buffon or Nedved

You always come on here to tell us that he is the most hated player in Italy and that noone wants him in the NT but it seems to me every time Italy play the noise level of the crowd goes up anytime the ball comes to him and that happened in San Siro where player s like Inzaghi and Vieri were the "homeboys" and even the commentator who is Engilsh but is into Italian football was like everyone loves Dp in Italy (exaggeration of cos) but he is quite popular unlike what you try to tell us

The simple fact of the matter is that he has been the symbol of Juventus for 10 years now and is well loved by the manager, the bosses and the fans, okay Nedved and Buffon are flavour of the month because they are relatively new but to say the captaincy should be taken away from him and given to Nedved is way beyond me

What would that prove? Would it make Dp play better in big matches?

Noone should ever question his talent, its his mentality that can be questioned

By the way why is it that you are willing to give benefit of doubt to Trezeguet because he had been injured and that affected his season but in Dp's case you are saying his overrated

Yes an overrated player scoring 102 goals in serieA and over 25 champions league goals, 24 goals for his Nt but he is still overrated

Whats his crime? Well we all know what his crime is and nothing he would ever achieve would be good enuff

i hate this, i hate it when u people defend him, u people have to bring up statistics EVERYTIME...:wallbang:
How else do you measure a players career, for his personal carrer you mention how many goals he scored if he is a striker and then you say how many championships /cups he has won and in both cases it is pretty impressive

I have already said he is definitely a choker there should be little doubts about that but you cannot ignore the contributions he has made to a team you go about boasting to your friends that you support

Name me players who have both individual and Team triumphs and lets see if stats would not come into play

Maradona is a gr8 player no doubt but if someone said Maradona was overrated then you would have to give stats, wouldn't you?

What makes Esnaider shitty, the Real Zaragoza fans would certainly disagree

As for Keane well I am sure he can point out who his dad is but never mind

I was not questioning the choker bit but I was questioning the part where ppl question his importance as Mate did

Anyways I am going to put your question to you in another way

How many cups or league titles did we win when Dp was in bad form?

This thread is plain stupid.

OK, he could be a choker or whatever youu like to say, but the guy have talent, and like people said, he have done a lot of things for the team.

I agree definately that Del Piero is a very good player, and that he has talent, and the fact is he helped us win many cups and leagues, he got usd through the start, but he WASNT THERE IN THE FINISH!

A good player team player, but a choker.

O.K., everyone wants to call DP a "choker" (Alright, not everyone, but most of you )

I guess we can also call Vieri a choker after he missed the give-me goal against S.Korea, which would have won us the game, not to mention Inter's loss to Lazio in the final game of 2 season's ago when Vieri was not up to par

I also guess Roby would fit into this catagory (we all know why !!)

NO ONE IS PERFECT !!! I can look at all my hero's and find some fault in some game that they played

Vieri, Baggio, and DP are STILL CHAMPIONS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually I don’t agree with u in some points!!
Let us take it one by one:

1.Golden boy: he was a golden boy but he still guess why? The injury that Delpiero had in 98 was one of the most dangerous injuries that might face a player in the football field!! Delpiero was scoring just penalties after this injury but later on he returned step by step and he reached 70 or 75% (which is good) of his level and then he scored a lot of goals and made a lot of goals as well!! I agree with you that we missed him sometimes in the big matches but his spirit work with the team! (in my opinion)

2.About Depotivo La C. match when he missed the penalty (I think every player does!!... its 99% luck and 1% how well he will kick the ball)!! For instance Roberto Biggo missed a penalty in the WC 94 that made Italy lost the WC!!
    3.EC 2000 --- No Comment… (I was crying at that night)
4.Leadership: By all accounts, he is a skilful player!
5.He has the ability to calm down the players when it’s a difficult match.
    6. He is already cool!! (I haven't seen him nervous till now)
