Our record without Ronaldo this season is a grand total of 0 wins. But the moment we win a game in his absence (against a team that hadn’t won in their last 12 btw) the “we play better without him” brigade crawl out of their woodwork.

His goals away at Udinese helped seal it for us at the end ultimately. Maybe we should’ve benched him that game too.

In his first year with us Ronaldo scored a hatrick against Atletico, then he scored two goals against Ajax.

Last year he scored two goals against Lyon

Only this year we can say he was bad in CL, even though he gave Chiesa an assist against Porto.

And again, if we're so much better without him, how come we only won one of the 5 games he missed due to Covid around October and November?

It’s basically the money that comes available without him and the possible reinforcements that make us potentially stronger without Ronaldo.

Around October/November Ronaldo got Covid, he missed 5 games, and we only won one of those 5 games he missed.

That is also on the replacements, who were not up to scratch. Whether it was the whimsical Morata, hapless Dybala, or green Kulusevski. It's obvious that we would have 4 points more at least in that bunch of league games with Crotone, Benevento and Verona, to anyone who watched us up front in those games, but it is what it is. The replacements we have should easily be good enough for two of those games, but Ronaldo has often had to carry the attack, for one reason or another.

I disagree. You only look to the biggest and most expensive players.

And selling/releasing (or whatever) Ramsey, Dybala, Chiellini, Buffon means you also have to replace them. We aren’t paying the salaries of Costa, Rugani and De Sciglio for now, but I get your point there and agree obviously.

What im trying to say is that the 50/60m gross Ronaldo costs could potentially be used for 2 or 3 good signings, so overall your team could be better. But again it depends on who we will get for that money, if you buy another Ramsey, Bernardeschi and Costa than obviously you won’t improve.

totally agreed. It is never a winning move getting rid of a superstar. It's always a step back, on the field and off. Ronaldo gave us 29 goals this season in serie A, you are not replacing that. The problem on this team is not Ronaldo, it's the midfield that leaves our defense unprotected and doesn't create anything for our attackers. Get a solid midfield and this team with Ronaldo, Dybala and Chiesa would be a different level next year.
