It's because they had CL success once. You gotta keep winning the competition alla Barcelona and Real Madrid to retain popularity. A rare CL win doesn't mean much. People forget quickly.
what was the last time clubs like city, psg, tottenham or arsenal last won the cl? or what about juventus for that matter? also, liverpool didn't win shit for 15 years before their recent cl triumph. real didn't win the cl for like 12 years before they started collecting wins with cr. they still remained popular, because they had star players.

thing is that the moment you have marketable players, you'll start gaining exposure, more fans, and eventually you'll sell jerseys. 33 year old cr7's image rights are worth more than his actual input on the pitch, that should be clear by now.

You need money for long lasting results. You need players for results. You need marketable p[layers for money. Vicious circle but at least we are now on the merry-go-round instead of on the sideline hoping. Once we are big enough we can make big purchases regularly.
In case of fans.

Eye pleasing football - > New Fans - > More Revenue - >Potential to buy superstars - > Increases chances of continuous success - > Increases fan base

Yeah that is the case a lot of the time. But you have to have star power too or you end up like Arsenal.
Id say for fan growth you need
1. Results
2. Star players
3. Global team brand

Sadly we are not getting sarribal anytime soon. But we do get "fuck sarribal" most of the times.

Although arsenal are bad now, I think they have more revenue than us. Playing in the pl helps them a lot. As does us having Ronaldo. Also they would probably become good again if they're owner would not be such a cheapskate.

I don’t call BS because it’s true. Had he stayed in Madrid his chances to grab one or two more Ballon d’ors were higher. Just a simple fact. Now, has he actually said he regrets leaving? No idea but I don’t doubt it.

I disagree. Now the big thing is fan retention which is built off attaching his fans to other players on our squad. For me I started watching because of Edgar Davids but very quickly Nedved became my favorite. At some point you start to be a fan of the team.

I dont think we are doing a great job of getting fans to stay with our play but also bringing in a top talent will help that a lot. I dont think its out of the realm of possibility
Yeah it always starts with one player.

What's easier: winning CL multiple times or signing the GOAT? lol

CR is not just the most popular/marketable footballer, he's actually the most marketable person atm. Signing him is always a good move.

Going for Ronaldo is not mutually exclusive to reinforcing midfield. Plus if have all the tools ready then him coming clutch in KO rounds is the most important thing.

I also call BS because I'd be surprised if he gave up already. If he came here it's because he was up for a challenge

Sure but then he’s watching Messi leave him eating dust in the trophy department while there’s nothing he can do about it. He’s Always been very individualist with a huge ego and right now our team doesn’t seem to be the place that will give him the challenge he needs to be at the top again. He’s gotta be hurting at least.

I mean, we absolutely walked through our CL group. If anything, he probably thinks we can win the UCL this year. I don't see how he would be de-motivated.

I know this board is hyper critical but from a player's perspective, they must have some more confidence than us considering how impressive the results were in the group.

Ronaldo knows winning CL here will cement him as the true GOAT and he knows he still has at least 3 more chances.

Being originally in camp "you can't pass on the opportunity to sign the goat", I too am coming to a point were i wished we could have spent the money on our non existing midfield instead.
his 100mil transfer fee and massive wage were certainly not worth it on the pitch. that kind of money would have been much more beneficial if we had just kept higuain and dumped 100mil on cleaning up/ clearing out the midfield.

if the CR7 acquisition was worth the money then it will be off the pitch and seeing his status, it may turn out to be a good move long term. probably would help if the team could play half decent football
