what's going on in portugal? just read some local news that said that your govt lifted restrictions for only 4 days around christmas when the english variant was already in the country, and consequently everything went south
We had our California moment. After managing things fairly well for 9 months, we pulled an L.A. People got tired and complacent. The government was kind of dumb promising a little leniency for Christmas but a tougher lockdown on New Years, and that apparently opened the gates enough for families to jump on airplanes and bring back UK and South African variants. I think it's a combination of being a more contagious form, public fatigue, and my big one: nature abhors a vacuum.
After leading the world for a couple weeks in per capita COVID infections and deaths, things seem to finally be levelling off. Activity in the streets finally started to taper down significantly for the past couple of weeks... the first week or two of lockdown was sloppy and poorly adhered too as the counts went up.
