Marchisio takes WAY too much heat, given his salary, etc. People love having their own personal whipping boys on this site though - in past times, mine were Grygera and Marchionni - so I understand that. Of course, Marchisio is much better than those two...

He's having a rough year, but hopefully he'll bounce back (along with the rest of the team) with a new coach, next season. On his current form, he should be a sub, and he should also never be deployed at LM again.

He'll never perform at his best until a coach plays him in the role that suits him best. Being played on the left and trying to negate a poor LB position doesn thelp him.

In saying that, he is a good squad player, nothing more or nothing less.

Well yeah, but it does happen on most forums.

The comment 'overrated' does make me smile though.

Con x 10: he's crap
Pro x 1: no he isn't
Con x 10: wow, look how overrated he is here

Normally you'd need some ratings to be overrated.

Oh yeah, it definitely happens on most forums. Lots of little cliques too, so when a couple elder statesmen start the assault, it can get a little out of control.

I guess some of the response is because a lot of the people who bash the player now, once thought that he would be world class - and now that he's struggling, they feel personally betrayed, or something like that? ;)

Anyway, he's a useful squad player on a good salary, and it does no good to incessantly bash a useful squad member - especially one who's a youth product, and seems to have almost undying love and commitment to the jersey; as far as I can tell, he's always willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of the team.

Modern players surf the net, and they feel the overwhelming negativity surrounding the team. All the hate is counterproductive, just wasted energy IMO, especially when he's not one of our main problems.

Man Utd to poach Marchisio?

Claudio Marchisio’s contract expires in June 2012 and it’s reported Manchester United are ready to poach the Juventus talent.
The midfielder grew up in the Bianconeri youth academy and became a key figure when they were demoted to Serie B in 2006.

Marchisio has become an Italy international, but his contract expires at the end of next season and he could leave on a free transfer.

It is reported in Italy that he is demanding a pay rise before putting pen to paper on a new deal.

The 25-year-old currently earns just €1m per season.

However, Manchester United have joined Inter in tracking the situation and hope to take advantage.

It is not the first time that United have been linked with Serie A stars this month, as Sir Alex Ferguson is also said to be showing an interest in Inter’s Wesley Sneijder and Udinese talent Alexis Sanchez.

They can have him if we get Chicarito in return.

Bah, you just want the team to become like Inter, Alen.
Perhaps you're right and I need to reconsider. Selling Marchisio will mean losing our identity.
An identity of a team that chokes whenever it's important to win, an identity of a team that struggles and (probably) fails to get an EL spot, an identity of a team that plays the worst football in Europe.

We have very few players who can bring us some solid cash but aren't too important and aren't anything special. Marchisio is one of them. Lets hype him up and sell his ass.
It doesn't matter if he plays great somewhere in England. He's in Juve for years now and he didn't prove to be worthy more than 8-10m eur. Sell him for 15 and get over with him.
