Talent at youth levels is one thing, but integrating young players is far more important. Italy doesn't do it well enough, it's been said so many times. The game calls for a more tactical side, so most coaches are scared to risk.

I see players in the Italy youth setup who can stand amongst the top bracket at their age level, but what becomes of them in their careers is another matter.
I totally agree with you. Isn't that what Prandelli demands? More training sessions during the year, so he can tryout more players? More support from the clubs by allowing their players to attend trainings?

This.

He did marvelous the whole tourney, but yesterday, Prandelli derped, and hard.

He should have looked for a way to not use chiellini, who was literally burned. But he insisted on chiellini and the wrong formation, and he paid dearly.
He should have gone back to the 3 man back with Barz/DeRossi/Bonucci.... 5 in the middle and 2 upfront. Just like in the 1st game.... he left us at a tactical disadvantage from minute 1 in the middle, out numbered 6 to 4 and then to 3 when Motta went down. Horrible approach.... he should have used Giovinco and Diamante and even Giaccherini in this game .

You are exactly right. I'm oroud of the great run Italy had. It should instill confidence and hunger to win the World Cup.

yes definitely.... There's a saying "losing builds character".... Prandelli has to keep this core together, add a few more tactical players and hopefully youth like Veratti in the midfield (by the WC he will have 2 full seasons in Serie A).... Balotelli should be more mature, more experienced and more of a leader by then. I always looked at this Euro as a training session, stepping stone for the next WC. I really think this team will peak in the WC 2 years from now, IF and only IF Prandelli keeps the project going and doesn't change courses along the way..... stick to the plan and grow... There will be bumps on the road like the US game, or Uruguay or hell even yesterday but you will get good spots as well like the Germany game, England game, the Spain friendly in Bari.... just need to play through the bad and grow from it. This is basically what Spain has done, what Germany has done, they stuck to their projects

looking forward to seeing the team play for the confederations cup next year!
I'm not unless it's a developmental team. Pirlo and Buffon at least shouldn't play. They need to see if they can play without Pirlo... since you can always just bring him back if his form holds up anyway.

Also let's hope Conte makes a man out of Giovinco (i'm not confident). Can't keep playing CMs at Trequartista.

What Italy needs is attacking midfielders. The system there only seems to produce central midfielders or second strikers and it needs to change.

The only young player who could fit in the AM category is Diego Fabbrini of Udinese but he ain't that good. I guess Insigne could be tried there but he's more of a SS.

Do you think it might be just mentality? If Insigne has talent, why can't he move around in midfield. I still remember occasions when ADP had to play midfield and he was excellent.

That's why I hope they follow Prandelli's ideas instead of going back to the safe options. Spain's gameplan isn't just going to go away when Xavi retires. They will keep winning unless you can either go extreme defense or just outplay them.

Trequartista is calling for a, erm, trequartista.

Prandelli is different to a lot of coaches, especially the system he has.

It won't, but don't underestimate how important he is to Barcelona and Spain. He isn't just an important part of their system, he is the system.

Regardless of the outcome last night, I am still very proud of this team and what they were able to accomplish. Let's face it, a lot of us here would have been pleasantly surprised to get to the quarterfinals. In the end, they didn't have the talent or depth that Spain had.

Plain and Simple. No shame in it, because quite honestly, no one else in Europe has the talent that Spain does, either.

Well done, boys. I'm very proud of you. Forza Prandelli, and here is hoping that you stay on as coach, and they let you finish out your plan that you have.
