Sorry but that is totally wrong , they played counter - attack . The first 2 goals were long balls by blind over the top of the defenders . In 3-4-1-2 they played with 2 holding midfielders and 2 wing backs who rarely crossed their own half .

In our 3-5-2 formation vidal and pogba and get in the box a lot , how many times did guzman and de jong get that far ? .

We dont play counter-attack , we play possession , sit deep absorb and when we get the ball it's moved fwd by passing it around or long balls to llorente to hold for mids to come in .

The dutch played direct last night 2-3 passes ball moves fwd , thus they they seemed more attack minded than our team . They have van persie and robben who like to make the run's behind the defenders we dont (tevez/llorente) . Spain's defense was caught because they were playing a high line proving they were pressing .

When sneijder got in the attacking position , van persie and robben both drift wide making it a 3-4-3 , when we attack its 3-3-4 (asa-tevez-llorente-licht) .

Formations change in the match depending on attacking or defending . You need to see movement of players who they are in each phase of the game .

Have a look at the heat map of the dutch players ( blind , janmaat , guzman ,dejong sneijder ) from last nite to know more about the movements .

I think people are forgetting that Prandelli took over a national team which were dumped out of the group stage in the last world cup in humiliating fashion...

This guy is a great manager, and has shown capable to adjust to different tactics when needs be. If we had him as coach, we would go far in the CL.

I find it wierd how even the English media, who genuinely hate Serie a, rate him highly but fans of Italy think he's average.

3) Prandelli is a magician

Italy did not have a good build-up, by any stretch of the imagination. Two weeks ago they lost their key midfielder Riccardo Montolivo to a broken leg. Cesare Prandelli then lost another player for the England game, the first-choice left-back Mattia De Sciglio, and finally, on the day, he was forced to deal with the absence of his captain, Gianluigi Buffon, who had suffered an ankle injury the day before.

Did he panic? Of course he did not. Prandelli said recently that he had a dream of winning the World Cup using seven different formations in seven games and if his injury problems continue then he may have to. Here, though, his team acted as if this was a first-choice selection, full of confidence and endeavour. The left-back position is not Giorgio Chiellini’s favourite but he rarely looked in trouble. On the right, the Matteo Darmian-Antonio Candreva partnership was behind many of their best chances throughout the game and was just more evidence of the Italian coach’s fantastic tactical flexibility. Darmian made his Italy debut two weeks ago.

[h=2]5) How far will the Italian team spirit take them?[/h]This Italian team does not have an abundance of brilliant players. Mario Balotelli? Tick. Andrea Pirlo? Tick. Gianluigi Buffon? Tick. And that’s about it.

How many in the england side would genuine start for Italy??? I wouldn't go beyond Baines, and perhaps one of the centre backs
he's not really comparing them to England, he's comparing them to the likes of Spain and Brazil and the prospect of winning it.

Italy are a good team, but I wouldn't consider them as one of the favorites

When you can boast with the fact that you won 4 world cups till date, which makes you the 2nd most successful nation, you should be always considered as one of the favourites.

Baines looked really poor against Italy but that could of been because he was all alone against Candreva and Darmian. No one else helped him.

The only player that really impressed me was Sterling. Cahill looked solid as well other than that Balotelli goal, but that was a pin point perfect cross from Candreva.
