that would be a possibility but I see the Texans go for Austin or Hopkins in the 1st. Bears and Minny are possible rivals for Austin but they probably go OL and Defense, respectively. If there is a team I see go for Austin before Texans, that would be Minny with the newly acquired 1st rounder from Seattle.

IIRC, Texans don't have much cap room and need to get a S and CB, or two and LBs and WRs, etc. So a free agent like Welker would probably push them too far. Time will tell though.

Wallace to Miami is good news - would force BB to actually shore up that secondary, finally ... don't think Wallace would work out well for them though.

8 mil for Goldson is indeed too much. Good player but not as good as that. Goldson walking = San Fran goes S or CB in 1st, imo. Then use the Chiefs early 2nd on someone like Kawaan Short or Jesse Williams; D. Jones ain't making it pass Atlanta, Pats or a bunch of other teams in the 1st, imo, actually, I don't think he falls beyond 25, tbh.

Kruger to Browns holly crap :sergio: - Colts would have been a much better fit and they have the money to do it. Wonder what may have been the issue there - looked like a perfect fit for the Colts with the former Ravens DC now their HC.
Niners won't take a safety in the first round, unless they reach for that kid from Florida International. The only safety that would be worth it (Vaccaro) won't be there. CB might be a possibility but unlikely. They have to shore up that DL if both Sopoaga and Jean-Francois both leave, which it looks like they will. I have a gut feeling that Jones will be there at 31.

I don't think that Kawaan Short or Jessie Williams are worth taking with such an early 2nd round pick. I projected those guys at the bottom end of the 2nd round. They are pretty high on Ian Williams, and just signed him to a 2 year contract extension, so they might be using him as the starting NT. He has the size for it.

Latest news is the Niners are ramping up their pursuit of Sean Smith

Kruger to Brows is pretty much done.

- - - Updated - - -

Ravens sign Chris Canty. He a big boy.

- - - Updated - - -

Quinn visiting Detroit. Would love to keep him, but he's not worth the money he wants.

- - - Updated - - -

David Canter thinks Brice McCain and Tim Dobbins are worth $5 million a year each.

They'll be back.

wow, Miami have also gotten Ellerbe from Ravens - he was one player the Ravens were looked to make a priority to lock up with a long-term deal. Don't know if Kruger to Browns was a done deal but missing out on Ellerbe could allow the Ravens resign Kruger instead as they couldn't keep both.
Ravens look like they're planning a rebuilding year.

looks that way - that Flacco contract killed them in trying to keep the team together. Still, it looked like they made keeping Ellerbee a priority - at the expense of Kruger - and that's why I was surprised to see them lose both players.

yeah, quinn is gonna want to get paid; he's probably gone now.

was hoping the Pats would go after Canty but it seems they didn't even try for him. They seem to like D. Bryant from the Raiders for that role.

Charles Woodson and Desmond Bryant visiting the 49ers tomorrow.

Bryant would be a good fit as a 3-4 DE, given his size 6' 6" 315lbs

Isaac Sopoaga officially signs with Philadelphia. 3 yrs/ 12 million

how so? They had little cap room to begin with and then had to sacrifice Boldin, Kruger and as it turned out Ellerbee too, and that's just for now - in order to stitch things together.

6.8 million dollar cap hit.

Suggs and Ngata's cap hits for this year are both nearly double that of Flacco's

Darius Heyward-Bey got released by the Raiders.

Hmmm...........................................

Not the best of hands, but oh my, that speed. Wouldn't mind seeing SF take a look at him as their deep threat.

interesting, I'd have expected at least twice that amount - guess they tried to make it team friednly at least for this year; yet they couldn't keep neither Ellerbee nor Kruger.

Cheaper version of Mike Wallace, I guess :p ... not too high on someone whos a 4 year nfl vet and yet considered raw - makes me wonder about his level of effort and drive to learn/improve. Should at least be cheap, that's for sure.

Bryant has signed a big contract with the Browns, apparently. Another good reinforcement for that D-line after Kruger. Both very good players even if a bit overpriced.

Browns and Dolphins the big spenders on day 1 of free agency.

When you have that kind of money, you feel compelled to spend it. These teams should know by now that you don't buy a championship, you build it. If they both didn't suck at drafting in the 2nd-4th rounds, this wouldn't be an issue for them. Then again, cases could be made that they've missed on a few of their first round picks the last few years as well.

Niners are in the mix for Laron Landry

Dashon Goldson to Tampa, over 8 a year for 5 years. Big deal.

Serious talk about Welker to Denver, apparently.

Exactly. Screw That. Way too much for a safety. Methinks it will be either Ed Reed or Charles Woodson now as a short term solution.

Yeah, I read that about Denver. Pats fans here on the radio are losing their minds

49ers sign Glenn Dorsey.

Not bad. Has not lived up to expectaions, but Jim Tomsula is one of the best DL coaches in the game today, and he'll be 28 entering the season.

No doubt Pats fans are mad! Wonder what the numbers are like...

I grew up cheering for the Wolverines, but have lost touch with college ball; still, Charles Woodson, I love you. That move would be fine by me!

You're absolutely right, Tomsula, huge change of environment and culture, those LBs; Dorsey in San Fran is an interesting move.

And for the record, I am not concerned about the 49ers losing Goldson. Yes, it's a loss, but it can be negated by getting a top CB such as Sean Smith, and a 2nd tier safety like Reed and Woodson.

Now, if I said that a couple of years ago about Reed and Woodson being a 2nd tier safety compared to Goldson, I would have banned myself from this forum

It's official

Wes Welker to Denver. 2 year contract

- - - Updated - - -

So let me get this straight.

Denver now has Thomas, Decker, AND Welker???????

Wow.

Wow wow wow.

Too bad their defense is still average.

- - - Updated - - -

2 years/ 12 million dollars

It's obvious that the Patriots didn't want him back.

As an outsider, I usually believe that the Patriots normally do the right thing, but I'm sorry, not in this case. Welker was vastly underpaid for the majority of his career with New England, and he was a lock for 100 receptions a season. How do you not match this offer, especailly when Chad Ochocinco was given a 6 million dollar guaranteed contract by the Patriots two years ago? This was a mistake.

Peyton Manning must have a boner from Denver to Salt Lake City right now.
