Alright, I might accept the argument that he plays in Enlgand, therefore his peformances must be taken in context, however Evra plays in France! If the English league is easy on players, then the French league is a holiday. Evra may be slightly faster than Bridge, but he's certainly not stronger. Furthermore, Bridge is a better crosser, has better ball skills, and it's not even close when you talk about defensive ability...
When I say he plays in England, I mean he is an English footballer, and I don't rate their kind highly. And I am talking about Evra's performances in the Champions League, where he has out played every competing LB in the whole competiton. That to me shows he is class, and right now he is the best LB on earth in my books.
First of all, I'm a slightly disgusted at your gross generalisation of English footballers. English footballers repressent a broad range of ability and class; to rate them lower simply because of their nationality is ignorant and smacks of bigotry.
Next, Evra has not out-performed all the other left backs in the competition. Bridge played many games better than Evra's best, as did Stuttgard's Lahm. He is class, but to call him the best on earth is certainly a stretch. He's had the advantage of Rothen on his wing while Bridge has had to carry the left wing load himself when Duff is not on the pitch and Damien has been injured a lot. Furthermore, Rothen helps out Evra with the defense, while Bridge never gets any such assistance and he stills performs just as good if not better than Evra.

I'll not say that Roberto Carlos has good defensive skills, because he doesn't. But, in terms of effectiveness, he has to be right up there because the simple threat of him going forward is more often than not enough to convince the opposing winger to stay back, just in case. Furthermore, he's the fastest left back out there with the possible exception of Ashley Cole. That hs to give him some credit, and his free kicks are a plus too. I mean, I don't like him, and I'd rather not have him on my team, but speaking honestly, he is maybe the most effective left back out there in terms of the complete performance required of the modern fullback.
I disagree. Carlos is fast, I'll give you that, but his craving for going forward is the cause of so many goals Real Madrid concede. His free kicks suck, and if I was an opposing winger I would do the very opposite of what you're saying. Rather than staying back to help my full back cover Carlos I'd be sure to be ready to make him pay for going forward and losing possession. Bridge is much more effective than Roberto Carlos, as are Evra and Zambrotta to name a few.
