I think you are overlooking the quality and form of Zanetti since he has joined us.
For me he is on the same level as say Carrick or someone for example. He is experienced and has played for Roma, Inter and now Juve. He has been an International player and was even probable of getting called for Euro had he not declined to play for the national team.

Zanetti merits a place in the team and if we get Xabi he will will still get to play his fair share of games along with Sissoko. Xabi, Zanetti and Momo are all quality players and would be our midfield leaders.

Tiago would be on the way out for sure though if we get Xabi.

Giovinco can play anywhere as long as its in an advanced attacking position. I think his weakness will be his defending.

I actually like Gio playing near the penalty box, he draws plenty of fouls, and since he is small, he can make quick turns and maneuvers that will be difficult for defenders to stop without occasionally fouling. You can count on him getting us some penalties in that box too.

Gio and Alonso, play different roles, we need a CM, and that is Alonso. Gio is a Forward and Attacking Midfielder. And wont be easy to cope physically with his defensive duties especially in the center midfield.

Juventus have reportedly pulled the plug on their pursuit of Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, a decision which could have vast repercussions for both clubs’ transfer plans…

The Sun claims Juve have scrapped their plans to bring Alonso to Turin, despite the move appearing all but done after several weeks of negotiations.

Prior to EURO 2008, it seemed only a matter of putting to pen to paper but closing talks were put off during the tournament and have failed to pick up where they left off.

It is believed the Reds are now refusing to budge from their original ₤16million asking price, a figure the Old Lady simply will not – or cannot – meet.

Hence, the Bianconeri have turned to alternative targets such as Sevilla’s Christian Poulsen and Internazionale’s Dejan Stankovic – the latter of whose proposed move has met with angry protests from the Juve faithful.

But the situation at Anfield is even more interesting, as Alonso’s non-departure could effectively scupper Rafa Benitez’s hopes of landing Aston Villa wantaway Gareth Barry.

It is understood Benitez was to use the cash from the Basque playmaker’s transfer to fund the Barry deal, as Villa are demanding ₤18million for their skipper. The Merseyside giants have repeatedly denied that this was the case, but that stance will most certainly be tested now.

The timing of these happenings also leaves Barry in a particularly unpleasant situation, as the England midfielder effectively severed ties with Villa recently when he publicly declared his desire to join Liverpool.

As Villa have already secured a replacement in Steve Sidwell, the 27-year-old could be out in the cold if Benitez decides to drop the deal and focus on attacking reinforcements instead.

to be very frank, i think juve's move to scrape the deal is'nt wrong we've been playing the mouse and cat game for tooo long. xabi him self does'nt know what he wants. if he wants to stay at liver pool or come to juve. the villans dont want to give up on there player for cheap. this xabi saga has been dragging for ages i think its a good choice despite xabi being a player i'd love to see at juve.

i think the deal is still on....this isn't the first article to say Juve pulled out of the Xabi deal...I am pretty sure that Barry will join Liverpool could be due to the fact of his fine saying that Martin was not willing to try and keep him at Villa and that he wants the CL..

but, who knows i could be wrong..but, it seems to me this deal has been confusing for all of us..How Xabi said he was waiting after the Euros to think about his future and how the board says in 10 days someone new will come in. yet every 10 days has been the same..Honestly, this transfer has been stalling for awhile and should have been done a month ago persay....

yet, with this board I don't what will happend, they could be after Poulsen in Spain..but, like the board they are so confused and don't know what to do..we could end even up with Senna on our time since they are in Spain....lets hope not

Why does people keep reading those damn goal.com articles is a mistery to me, every single day they post some BS article about this transfer.
Just wait and see, and surely don't believe articles coming from goal.com, one of the biggest BS sites after tribalfootball.

Wait for an official announcement either way people - don't ride the Calcio mercato gossip roller coaster - as difficult as it is to ignore and as badly as we all want our team to make a big signing NOW. My experiences with the Sun have demonstrated that a significant amount of their headlines are sensationalized, and the articles are full of speculative gossip that's proven incorrect later. I know that some people feel that the Sun does alright and reported well on some Chelsea happenings. My feeling is that they're a newspaper - they're supposed to print facts, and then retract inaccurate statements... except they love the gossip, and printing retractions would take up all of their time. Especially in the sports and entertainment sections... rumors/heresay, speculation and estimates galore. They do occasionally stumble onto a valid leak though...
