modric=22, samir nasri=21, aguero= 19.....All of them r young and great even in their young age. xavi alonso himself was 22-23 years old when he first came to liverpool and back then top teams were after him (real madrid). Liverpool paid like 13 million euros for his service, played him for 4 years and now their selling him for a profit (thats IMO a great business).....We did the same with zidane and it was one of the best deals perhaps in football history........
well yes, you're right. But do you want to make a 'great business' or do you want to win trophies. you choose. If you want to make business, well you take your 20 mio, bring them to brazil and buy ~10 promising 17-yr old youngsters, put them in your primavera/loan them out, and then, in about 5 years, at least one of them has surely developed well enough to play in the first squad, or to be sold. But in the meantime, we played 5 seasons without a reinforcement.

You have to see that we are still on a 'squad bulding' process, and that we're not like inter or barca, who can splash their cash on people they will need in a few years only. why should we sign an aguero (or someone less known even) when we have a LB who can't even cross one (!) decent ball?!

arteta has been playing on the right this year but he is NOT a winger, he is a playmaker at heart, that is the position he covets but has been doing well out wide for everton but to call him a winger is just wrong
He plays on right and left wing when needed,CM positions are reserved for Carsly and that other guy. Hell, even the FM which I don't play rates him as a winger.

This year? He plays on the wing all the time...or at least he came on the island.

If you watch EPL you should have know that by now

yep, he plays on teh right wing "when needed" and he cannot dislodge lee carsley from CM, says it all really. he is a playmaker, was at PSG and was at Rangers, went to sociedad as a playmaker but could not hold down a starting slot.

just because he is foced to play out wide (mainly due to everton having limited options there, mainly it is arteta or neville) does not make him a winger by any stretch of the imagination

Well done sherlock....If you knew premiershit you would know that there hard working midfielders are in advantage over any type of player, and if you belive that Arteta is in same class as Lee then you're an idiot, nothing less and nothing more. Or you have never seen Arteta play....choose :)

And the have Leon Osman there and Pienaar if needed.

oh i know teh premiership, i am subjected to the english media's mindless ramblings on a daily basis. i also have seen arteta progress through his career from when he arrived in scotland, went to spain and then ended up at everton and i reiterate to you that "he is not a winger" despite david moyes playing him there. and everton do have very little strength in depth as if you watched them this season arteta has been filling that side a lot, as has phil"cannot cross a ball" neville, so i ask you...have YOU been watching the same team play?
now, i have never had a problem with you before but if you call me an idiot again and try to degrade a conversation into name calling i promise you will come out second best

Arteta isn't a winger. He plays well there but if he got to choose his position he would play in the middle, just like Rosicky at Arsenal.

i wouldnt mind benzema but to be honest i prefer buffon
i know that they don't play the same position but i doubt that we will buy 2 midfielders so i would prefer vdv

Del Piero Trez

Van der Vaar

Neddy Sissoko Camo

Grosso Chillini Zapata Zebina

and with players like amauri iq and gio on the bench

for amauri we will pay around 13 mil
we can get vdv for 20 mil (maybe a cash plus almiron/tiago or marchionni)
than get a decent lb like grosso (i would love to see vargas here but this seems to be impossible)
and buy a wc cb like zapata
that would be around 50mil € but we would have a very good team i think

If anyone here wasn't convinced of Alonso before, watch the pass master video Ledje posted a few posts up. Some midfielders don't make as many brilliant passes in a season as he did in that one game.

If you still doubt him after that, go to youtube and search for Xabi Alonso vs Real Madrid. Anyone who scores against those fuckers earns 10 bonus points.

I too have no idea how people don't rate Alonso. He oozes class, and it is so easy to see. It really should not even be disputable, Xabi is the bomb, and most teams in the world would be lucky to own him.

i think that the problem is that we are not sure how he will play in our serie A, and if he's as good as before now. if you see the most of the videos are of some years ago. i think that we can find very good videos of tiago too, but i don't think there's people that likes him so much
