@Seven true but all that shows is Fifa doesn't give a shit and takes money over everything. Qatar understood that the bribe is the most important factor and they won, human rights are irrelevant. Fifa could've said no and had nearly a decade to strip Qatar but they didn't.

John Barnes explains it here, 2:35 onwards.

Now I haven't watched a fraction of a second of this World Cup nor followed results or anything but apparently the final is this weekend and one side i Argentina. Can someone give me a proper argument as to why it is so beautiful that Messi wins a World Cup title? I am not understanding the theory that many on te interwebs are forcing us to force.

It’ll be beautiful to see his tears though. And his 100th retirement from the national team :touched:
But considering my jinx capabilities, the midget is going to win it :(

They won't. But rumors are he might become available as a substitute which is positive news for them.

Besides Mbappe is more comfortable playing alongside a targetman like Giroud over Benzema

The setup they have right now suits them perfectly
Y, in hindsight that injury mightve been a blessing for France. No way theyd have benched Benz for Giroud, but theyve done extremely well with the 2018 lineup again.

Because it’s the one thing Maradona got that he doesn’t. So he can finally be crowned as the best of all time :gsol:

The older I get the more I realize how utterly stupid is comparing players from different eras, more so when they played several decades apart. it’s nonsensical.

The amount of ass kissing this guy is gonna get will be out of this world. Get ready for it.

It still does not convince me why it is beautiful.

I’ve supported France only twice before.
Against Germany in Euro 2016, and against England in this WC. This will be the third time.

We really are at the insufferable end of the tournament now.

I'm reminded about how when I used to follow American football, I always considered the football season over at the NFC and AFC conference championships. The SuperBowl was such a ridiculous money-grabbing spectacle for non-fans, commercial advertisements, and idiot media coverage from jamokes who knew nothing about the sport to come out with their write ups about false gods and mythologies.

Much the same, though not quite as bad, as the WC final right now. Every article injects "making history" cringe -- as has been a habit of the media a lot in the past year or two, IMO. Now it's just on overdrive. Plus all the usual morons who really don't follow the sport, who boil it all down to "Messi vs Mbappe", etc.

Just wretched. :inter:

I thought the games were largely uninspiring, but you can't blame the organisation for that. That's the teams.

I didn't visit the World Cup, but I got the sense there was little negative animosity surrounding the games. Maybe it's the lack of alcohol or perhaps some more violent fans were dissuaded from going to Qatar, because of their legal system. But this was definitely not an entirely negatieve experience.

None of this changes the fact that Qatar:
- were assigned this World Cup through bribery;
- put migrant workers through the harshest of conditions, resulting in the deaths of thousands.

Nothing that happens during the tournament can justify this.

This World Cup was the worst one in history before it ever started.
No question that Qatar was as scammy and dubious as awarding a WC has come. But isn't that the way of world football in general today and not just the WC?

I mean, look at what Juve is going through at the same time right now. If there was ever a reason we should feel the influence of slimy fossil fuel money for players, accounting fudging, and the opportunity if not necessity for fraud, corruption, and unethical behaviors expanding -- it is right this moment.

And it's not just Juve or the WC. It's Newcastle United. It's Liverpool. It's PSG. It's Barcelona having to spin off Messi in the first place.

This WC is just a mirror held up to every other bit of corruption going on in the club game these days.

More needs to be made of the real positives that came from hosting the Cup in an Arab country... that the environment around matches was less about drunken fights and debouchery and more a safer place for children and, believe it or not, women.
Thanks for the choice. I won't. I've thoroughly enjoyed you fagging out for the "alternative world view" and "alternative morality" even though it's objectively horrific. Or posturing the whole damn tournament about imperialistic bias. But your shtick is getting old. Really. I would give it a rest already. Why don't you go to Qatar and present a few ideas to their autocratic regime? Let's see how that goes. Your fellow forum members facing a real prison time for protesting autocratic regime in another country with alternative world view you so admire

Qatar is an autocratic shithole no doubt, but
interestingly youu are free to say fagging out there with no repercussions, and as much as i generally despise their presence at the stadium women were 100% safer at stadiums in this world cup than ever before.
