And Veron, who according to you had some world class displays ....and considering Inter did NOT win the scudetto, was found to be the best player in Serie A?
So the best player in Serie A has to play for the Champions now? Where is the UEFA rule that specifies that? Moreover, where is the logic in that? Should Ronaldinho be the best player in Europe even though he did not win the Champions League? By your logic, no.

I don't know how many times you have seen Veron play but you must admit he was among the best last season, and for naming the best player in Serie A you cannot name five players..

To be honest though I really don't look too much into ratings by any of these magazines because they are always subject to errors and are pure opinions. I watch enough Serie A to make my own ratings.

Actually i am very subjective when it comes to alex if he has a horrible game ill admit it as he had many games below par this season, but you dont give him praise when it matters so dont even try to play that card andy
I have never seen you admit to a poor Del Piero performance.

And anyone here (besides Seven, because he hates me) can back me up in saying that when Del Piero has a great game, I am always happy to let it be known to the world.

It was you who said that had Inter won the scudetto, he would have been named MVP.... I was just playing along to your logic.

I did assume though that MVP is equivalent to having the best ratings.

And I've seen Veron quite often this season, and I rate him highly, but I don't see him as the best player in Serie A.

The most valuable player does not always have the best ratings, as his work is sometimes subtle yet unbelievably neccesary. In the case of Veron, much like Nedved in 2003, would probably have deserved both the MVP and best player titles for the Scudetto and European Cup respectively.

But Andy you must also take into consideration that when your up for MVP like Neddy in 2003 you actually have to take your team somewhere. LIke Neddy(and another individual i will not name just so no more problems start) practically took us to the champs league final and also won us the scudetto, what did veron do

You're misunderstading me. I said IF Inter would have won the Scudetto, Veron would have been my choice for their MVP. However to be the MVP you do not neccesarly have to be the best player in the Championship.

And it doesn't matter anyway; let's stick to Del Piero.

Oh now i get you sorry bout that one Andy, but what i was trying to imply that usually when a player wins MVP he usually has to win something, which is why Totti will never win the player of the year, because he is at a club that will never win anything, lol and he wants roma to win champs league

Are you serious? I do backheels just like DP myself in practices and matches, but I don't see people drooling over my skills.
This must be a great piece of sarcasm. Otherwise I lost a huge amount of respect towards you.

Kinda depends on the moment though, John. It's not like it's a difficult technical skill but it shows good awareness, that's the main point I think.

yeah im aware of that chief..they are pretty spectacular when timed right...the good old nutmeg backheel is my personal fav...but id sooner have players being able to pass accurately in the first place.

Whom would we have blamed for Italy's failure to win the wc 98, 2002, the European championship in 96 2000 and 2004?

Whose fault would it have been when Juve failed to win the Cl from 96 onwards?
Umm, as an outsider, I'll content myself with commenting on those two lines.

I don't blame DP for the Euro 1996 Waterloo. In fact I blame Sacchi for not letting him play one minute in that tournament!

I don't blame him for WC 98 either. That was by far his best season and only a blind man could not have appreciated his class back then. I really just felt sorry for the guy because after such a phenomenal year he couldn't meet the very high expectations that were resting on him and express himself on his true level only because of a stupid injury. In fact, despite the injury I always wanted to see him play ahead of Baggio regardless, which says enough about the admiration I had for him at the time.

I definitely blame him for Euro 2000. He had two clear chances to finish the French and he missed them. No excuse.

WC 2002 : well, without his goal vs Mexico we wouldn't even had the chance to play South Korea in the second round. Umm, maybe I should blame him for that coz frankly I could have done without that travesty:groan:.

I don't blame him for Euro 2004. He wasn't great but no one else was. He almost scored the goal of the tournament against Sweden also.

The CL finals. If I were a juventino, I wouldn't blame him for any of the lost finals.

Again, I'd blame Lippi for not starting him against Dortmund in 97. Sacrificing his unpredictability in favour of Vieri/Boksic's muscles was one of the main causes of your loss that night. In fact he gave you a short glimmer of hope for a few minutes when he finally entered and scored.

I wouldn't blame him for the 98 final against Madrid. Yes he was the man you had entrusted with the mission of winning the game and he got injured at the decisive moment. But without him you would not even have reached the final in the first place, as his CL campaign that year was impressive to say te least.

2003 : you were facing Milan. What were you hoping anyway:D

Its not as if he scored two own goals in euro2000.These things happen even to the deadliest strikers look at shevchenko against liverpool and i dont mean the penalty i mean the chance he had from less than 6 yards which he couldnt finish.
It was the responsibility of the whole team to defend the lead especially the defenders and its not as if delpiero scored two own goals.Eventhough i agree that he played a part in that defeat i dont think its fair to put the whole blame on his shoulders

I dont know man, but if he had scored one of those goals we wouldnt even be talking about this. He was entrusted as the number 10 in that tournament and it was his job to produce. Like i find it odd about him sometimes that he can score a fabulous backheel that makes a goalie look so stupid but he cant chip a ball over "butterfinger" barthez
