When we were in the Champions League and ending up third in the table, we could offer less and the rest based on performances. When we end up seventh twice in a row, it is somehow difficult to make it look attractive. Let me make it simple, let's say we paid 20 M€ for Diego but instead we told Bremen, you take 13 M€ now and 7 M€ based on his performance. Back then we were second and playing CL but what did Diego do? Fine he was one of our best players but is he warrant the 7 M€ extra? I think not.

How it is relevant? Our situation right now says that players have the tendency to under-perform.

I would buy that argument if we were just any other mid-table team because CL qualification ensures there are funds; you have credit i.e. Juventus is unlike other mid-table teams, we actually have money, however much it is. We've apparently offered 35m for the guy, if that doesn't appeal to Atletico then we can offer a bit more on performance bases. I don't see why we have to make that look "attractive", actually I don't even know what that means.
