I like De Jong, but we need a continued local reference, look how the United greats bitched about the end of an era with Welbeck gone.

Joe Vinko can't cut it.

No De Jong isnt that much of an improvement to sacrifice Marchisio for, in fact, there shouldnt be a single damn need to sacrifice Marchisio for anyone.

Just buy whoever we need, why should the first thought allways be to get rid of the only quite good home grown player we have?

1. Vidal would be pissed cuz your using him to mark a fullback the whole match.
Vidal has frequently had to play that role for Juve.

3-5-2 has many of the same issues on the flanks as 4-3-1-2, so Vidal was often required to go to meet the fullback.

I think you are hugely exaggerating the need to continuously focus on the opposition fullbacks.

In the vast majority of cases, the team just needs to shuffle across the pitch.

Nothing close to genuine man-marking is required.

2. Mourinho disliked Mata for that reason, he didn't drop to do defensive work.
I'm aware of that.

Why is all the talk about Mata as the trequartista?

He is at the very extreme end of the modern spectrum of trequartisti and is hardly representative of the general modern 4-3-1-2.

3. In the early 2000 the standard system was 442 so when the 4312 appeared it allowed the trequartista to place between the CB and DM so it was deadly at the time.
4. The 4312 has evolved to 3412 and 4231 which allows you to use a trequartista but covering the wide spaces more efficiently. Why? because in those systems the players who recovers the ball from the fullback is a sidemidfielder or a wingback so he has free space to run the line and make a good cross.
I don't agree with your idea of how 4-3-1-2 came about.

Finally the 4312 Allegri used in Milan cant be a reference to us, their midfield was Van Bommel, Aquilani, Nocerino, Muntari, Gattuso, Flamini, Montolivo, Boateng so they at least had to defend well cuz I dont remember they were any special in creativity and attack.
So when Juve are playing with Marchiso or Pereyra as a trequartista - as seems to be the primary plan at the moment - we can't compare to that Milan because Marchisio and Pereyra are too creative and not hard-working enough?
