First of all, two corrections, 'Eloi' is in Hebrew and 'Eli’ is Aramaic (Matthew 27:46), meaning My God, which is what Jesus shouted out from the cross (in reference to the Christian crucifixion, I personally do not believe in the crucifixion).
Also, God, linguistically, in the Arabic language is Allah, and the Arabic language came long before Islam. The word Allah is the literal translation of God, and it can be pluralized into Aliha (gods). Christian and Jewish Arabs’ God is called Allah, its just linguistics, 'Allah’ is not just a Muslim God, He is God in Arabic, however most Muslims refer to Him as Allah regardless of their language, to maintain the uniqueness of the pronunciation.
Regarding the Pope’s comments a few days ago, I strongly believe it wasn’t a mistake, and shouldn’t be brushed off. I beg to differ that you think Muslims overreact out of ignorance. I believe that we live in a time where Islam is being attacked left and right, and fought verbally and literally, and I would blame nobody else for this except Muslims, especially Arab Muslims, who do nothing about it. Most Muslims nowadays use the ostrich approach and complain and whine that the West is attacking them, and they don’t have enough understanding of their own religion to confront comments like that.
However, what the hell was the Pope thinking? This isn’t just a simple innocent mistake, this was thought out and planned, and he is a figure that wrongfully represents 1 billion Catholics worldwide. He needs to take responsibility for what he said.
Also, please tell me why is it that every time any Muslim speaks out against any religious or political sect, the Western world doesn’t hesitate to lash out at Muslims worldwide, and jump to label Muslims as terrorists?
I do not believe Muslims are overreacting, they are simply expressing pent up anger. Arab Muslims live under regimes where not much can be done or said, on the political AND religious front.
Its sad to think that protecting and defending one’s own religion is considered an act of ignorance.
