Though interestingly, I've heard from other Americans now living abroad, that I will likely become more patriotic after I move out of the country. For example when a European insults the US or Americans & I have to defend myself.

Reminds me, I was in Italy & someone asked why we were visiting, my fiance said for a football match. They assumed I was just tagging along with him for it, not because I was the girl in the relationship, but because I was the American.

I read that in a cracked article a few days back, about one of the writers how lived in australia. I joined in the offending of england when i was travelling, but when someone criticises the English when i'm here i get a bit defensive, because it feels like an insult on me due to the cultural identity that i was born into.

I've never left the country so I can't really compare it, but I do love a lot about the United States. The quality of life, the opportunities afforded to me, the freedom, etc. Would be great if the government could get their act together, though.
