Though interestingly, I've heard from other Americans now living abroad, that I will likely become more patriotic after I move out of the country. For example when a European insults the US or Americans & I have to defend myself.

Reminds me, I was in Italy & someone asked why we were visiting, my fiance said for a football match. They assumed I was just tagging along with him for it, not because I was the girl in the relationship, but because I was the American. :lol:

I read that in a cracked article a few days back, about one of the writers how lived in australia. I joined in the offending of england when i was travelling, but when someone criticises the English when i'm here i get a bit defensive, because it feels like an insult on me due to the cultural identity that i was born into.

I read that article too, that's why that thought is fresh in my mind, but I had heard it from a friend who's an American expat even before that.

Hm, 2 new, similar threads from 2 very recently joined members caliming to be from countries where we don't get much known posters from, and with names that are supposed reflect their nationality (I guess), and no avatars.

I've never left the country so I can't really compare it, but I do love a lot about the United States. The quality of life, the opportunities afforded to me, the freedom, etc. Would be great if the government could get their act together, though.
