Probably would have been nice to go to trial and get some closure on the situation.

But Wilson was never going to be indicted. No prosecutor in his right mind would try had to indict a police officer from his department without evidence of major ciminality (being a crooked cop) on the part of the police officer. It would be political and professional suicide for the guy.

It also seems like there wasn't much evidence (whether on purpose or not) and the witness statements seemed to change far to often to provide a substantial understanding of what happened.

Also, when you see the rioting and the treatment of the non-violent protestors (the ones not looting and rioting) and the media by the police department it's obvious there are deep seeded issues between the community and the police department. That's the true tragedy here. That some members of this society feel the best way to react to a tragedy is with violence and disregard for others. It's pretty obvious that this has been building for years and Mike Brown's death was just an excuse to make it official.

I never said the guy should be indicted, just that he never was going to be. Even if Mike Brown was white, there wouldn't have been an indictment. Prosecutors don't indict their police unless it's something completely unjustifiable with a ton of evidence ie. Rodney King.

If they want, the state can elect to have a special prosecutor or the Feds can bring in one of their guys, but it's unlikely to happen.

i dont know about necessity of indictment, unless like you said there was clear evidence of foul play.

Also the problems between police and community have more to do with a significant part of community's reliance on criminal activity and that 'life' than some a priori antagonism from 5-0.
