I consider De Sciglio an improvement over Maggio or Abate and Criscito would allow Chiellini to be moved back into the center. Even in a 5-3-2/3-5-2, who would be a better choice on the left?
The defense hasn't been as good. Pirlo's not the same. Balotelli has gone off the deep end. I don't think they're better. Rossi is the only improvement.

Italy aren't that great, but most National teams nowadays are kinda shit anyway.
Brazil, Argentina, Spain, and Germany start on the front line of the grid. Behind them are Italy, Portugal, and Uruguay. Colombia and Belgium are the dark horses. Holland are going to suffer a monumental/epic failure.

Only reason Argentina might have a chance in this WC is because it's played in SA. If it wasn't, they'd choke and crash out at the QFs as per the norm.
yes pirlo is gonna shit over "big" teams especially in the knock out stage. italy has the best GK, the best defence, top 5 midfield, and top 3 attack + a strong bench which is very important
That's pretty much the reason Italy won in 2006 and the then nobodies Spain in 2010. Even though Brazil had an excellent team in 2002, Kaka-Robinho generation makes me puke.
Any WC post-98 has been utter shit overall. 1986, 1994 and 1998 were the best WCs of the last 30 years.
IMO, the difference between Portugal and Sweden in the playoff wasn't just Ronaldo > Ibra, but rather the key piece was Joao Moutinho > any markers Sweden could send his way.
It's a subtle art to the play, but as fantastic and clinical as Ronaldo is, this is still a team sport where the supporting cast counts.
