Webb was probably gonna give a red card if it wasn't a world cup final.

Like I said, referees follow different rules in a final. I'm pretty sure that not only Webb but every other referee would have given de Jong a yellow yesterday and a red if he did it in the quarters.
So?

Spain deserved it more. Both during the tournament and in the final game. And I really don't understand how people can complain about Iniesta' goal. It must have been a corner kick for Holland before that goal, of course, but Holland must thank Webb for letting them play the second half with 11 men. Besides, Spain had a better chance of winning the game in penalties IMO.
The should have been down to 9.

I guess Iniesta is a party pooper, penalties would have been more fun.
Which is funny since during the whole game to this point he only run in the box and tried to get a penalty instead of trying to score.

The Dutch were clearly the ones coming out as the rougher of the two sides and that was their game plan. To not allow the Spanish midfield time on the ball.

true, and it did work to be honest!! shame they never capitalized on it. and when robben was supposed to dive he opted to be a straight shooter all of a sudden as if he did'nt stand a chance in front of the wprld class divers that r spain :D ( talk about hate )

Nothing wrong with their game plan, plenty wrong with the execution imo.
Had there been a fair ref, they would have been down to 9 men even before the Spanish would have had the chance to start behaving like jackasses...

But sadly, like Alen said, pretty much every referee is going to be extremely reluctant to show an early red in a WC final. Perfectly normal human reaction, but terribly unfair at the same time.

I don't claim Brazil played amazing football, but from what I've seen they play football unlike the dutch and partly the espanyolos. Of course the Dutch deserved it to be in the final, but every time they lose grip of the match they play like it's Mortal Kombat. Portugal 2006 match, Brazil 1st half match, Spain match. There wouldn't be any justice if The Netherlands would've won this match. It's no surprise they ended at the bottom of the fair play list. I would've preferred a Brazil - Spain match because I have strong believe, these sides would play actual football. But I feel like this final was just a lose for Football.

But than you can't really judge their presentation as Denmark, Japan and Cameroon wouldn't be any form of danger for them. Slovakia neither. Brazil, still don't know what happened that match in the second half, all I know that the Surinam Selecao boys around me were going nuts. And Uruguay was also extremely lucky IMO as that deflected Snijder ball where Van Persie (who was offside) did actually involved in the attack. So it's also a lot of luck from the dutch side, when it came to the draw of the poule, Slovakia fucking up Italy and ending 2nd, offside goal imo.

The coach just failed with Van Persie, Huntelaar should've gotten a chance.

Say what you will, i still missed Van Nistelrooy.

The ref did well imo. Not perfect, of course, but he did his best to avoid putting his imprint on the game. I think he could have played advantage more often, but he was fair in stopping play and he gave out yellows for the cynical fouls in these cases.

Chris Waddle in the BBC says he's never seen the Dutch play like that.

"You associate beautiful football with the Netherlands and that was the first time I have ever seen them play like that."
WTF? Doesn't he remember the last WC, where Holland was eliminated with 7 yellow cards? Dumbass has the memory of a peanut. This is not new behavior from Holland against Iberian opponents.

So why are people shocked that de Jong wasn't red carded?
I'm not shocked. I assumed he wouldn't be. But a red card would have been the right call, Alen. It's not because refs are scared of taking such decisions early on in a World Cup final that a yellow card sufficed.
