Spain deserved it more. Both during the tournament and in the final game. And I really don't understand how people can complain about Iniesta' goal. It must have been a corner kick for Holland before that goal, of course, but Holland must thank Webb for letting them play the second half with 11 men. Besides, Spain had a better chance of winning the game in penalties IMO.

I agree, Casillas was ready for the penalties.....more than ready, he somehow wanted it to happen.

condolences brother...I supported the shit out of your Holland last night...just wasn't meant to be.
:touched:

I'm with Trezegol on this one. So close, yet so far.

You're a Dutch Juve fan. How bad could that be? :D
Lost 3 CL finals in a row and 3 world cup finals in a row.

Lucky for you that you weren't born or weren't a Juve fan during some of those 6 finals :)
:groan:

Congratz to Spain, i really dont get why we had to play so dirty, I want to respond on Gian ,but it will only waste my time. I was there i laughed ,i cheered, i cryed and still am down. So close and yet so far. One thing i can tho: IM PROUD !!
Thx Webb i hope your referee licence will be revoked. Tomorrow i will be cheering for Holland as they are the Champions!!
Nicely put, so close.. yet so far. Ofcourse I'm proud, we're a tiny country but manage to produce these kind of players, reach the final. Wasn't meant to be. Webb made a mess out of things, but it wasn't an easy game to referee, in all fairness. Bad calls both ways, few red cards ignored for both teams, but it's bitter such a small error at the end most likely cost us the game.

Not like we would've won it on penalties either. :D

I'm with Seven on this one, there's no need to fill pages discussing which goalie would've done better, or which players would've missed, etc.

1 - No they didn't deserve it more.

2 - Nobody has a better chance of winning on penalties.

You want me to thank Webb? Really? I agree we played very unfair but so did the Spanish, Iniesta pushed vBommel after an tackle ON the ball, Puyol almost ripped Robben his shirt off Twice!, He gave so many more free kicks to Spain then deserved, Don't even let me start on the offside from vPersie and the cornerkick and Iniesta who was indeed offside.
Yes de Jong deserved a red card for this mean karate kick, but thank him? Hell no! You want to win the final at all cost and so did Spain, they played as dirty as we did and they can act the same as Robben.

de Jong incident was on the 30th minute of the game. It would have finished the game right off if he had been sent off (rightfully). It was obvious how his presence was invaluable for Holland in the midfield (Holland lost the game when he left the pitch for van der Vaart).

I'm not saying that Webb favored Holland. He did have mistakes but his first mistake (and the most obvious one) was not sending de Jong off IMO.

This wasn't the first big final we watched in our lives, was it?

Why do we act so surprised then? It is an unwritten rule not to destroy a blody CL or WC final by giving an early red card. Unless it's something blatant where you have no escape but following the rules (for example, if Suarez saved a goal the way he did against Ghana in the 10th minute of a WC final, he was gonna get a red. Or Lehmann in 2006 CL) then you won't get an early red no matter how tough you foul. Spain knew that, Netherlands knew that. It was up to them to take advantage of that.

Should have, would have don't count in a WC final. Not officially, but the rules are different there and we all know that. Only after the 60-70th minute there is no forgiveness.

It's so wrong Alen if you are going to justify Webb' decision on de Jong karate kick on Xabi Alonso. It was a definite red even if it had happened on the first minute of the game.

Webb was probably gonna give a red card if it wasn't a world cup final.

Like I said, referees follow different rules in a final. I'm pretty sure that not only Webb but every other referee would have given de Jong a yellow yesterday and a red if he did it in the quarters.
