Looks like that Torres dude is getting a lot of praise, while I thought he was pretty bad, talented as he is (or seems to be at least).
Quickly reading through this thread, it also amazes me that Bradley (the coach, not the player) gets so much criticism. He read the game quite well if you ask me & acted accordingly.

And a quick question: Does anyone here think Dempsey should have been shown the red card after 20 seconds (elbow)? The pundits on Belgian television were all convinced that he should have been sent off, which would have been extremely debatable if you ask me.
Nah, Bob Bradley doesn't deserve any praise. If you're familiar with our matches, not just against England, this is the usual occurrence. Play like crap for the first 45 and then have to scramble to get a result after halftime. All Bradley does is try to make up for his mistakes by just mixing things up, which works sometimes, others it doesn't.

Fact of the matter is, we once again took the pitch flat and left the top of the 18 open for the opponent in the first ten minutes. That should not happen, but it did, and that's Bradley's fault. Since it has occurred several times in the past, it is his fault.

You're looking at the match wrong, dude. The main problem we had was that we kept blasting the ball forward while Torres tried to keep the ball on the ground, but nobody was showing for him. He was playing it right, apart from a couple defensive mix ups. He wasn't as bad as Dempsey for instance.

it was a high elbow, but I don't think that there was intent. Maybe a yellow, but no way was it a red
You're American, so you must be biased :D

I thought yellow card as well, but because they kept hammering about that on the telly, I started to think that maybe my interpretation was wrong. Especially since there's usually some debate by the different "specialists", yet this time they all agreed it should have been straight red...

I'm not at all familiar with your matches apart from big tournaments, so maybe I am indeed missing the entire point here.

Like you said, your first half was pretty awful. But they way you changed the approach to the game in the 2nd half was exactly what I would have done as a coach (including those subs), hence me thinking Bradley did a great job at reading the game & turning it around entirely.
Now if you say that you always have the tendency to start games like this, then there's obviously a big problem.

My main complaint about Torres was that he wasn't in sync with the rest of the team (if that makes any sense). He was playing his own game, while the other 9 players had a different approach. But I guess that's pretty much in line with how you saw it as well. While I see that as a major flaw, I guess you could also see it as a positive thing.

haha!
well, I can see why that would make you wonder. I definitely was worried he'd get a yellow, but it didn't even cross my mind that it might be a red.
