pirlo played a good match and totti wasnt playing the first 60 minutes.
in these first 60 minutes with del piero -toni-gila didnt do anything at all

what match are u taking about the ukraine match? in both swiss and ukraine matches it didn't look like italy wanted to win, it didn't concern them if they tied. Lippi tryed out a bunch of combinations by letting almost everyone play.

del piero - gilla- toni lit up germany is my point and i'd rather have a great potential to score with them on the field then putting a 60% totti on the field. dont get me wrong if totti plays great, whether he starts or is subed in. and if he plays great then ill be the first one to cheer. all i want is totti ready for the u.s.a and the czech even though this ghana match is important

i got ur point
u think that 4-3-3 will work better than 4-4-2 with a non on-form totti while i think the second option is better.
anyway we both want italy to win and we will cheer for it with any formation.

yup. but i must say with an in form totti i wouldn't even think about it, totti would be playing and the formation would suit his game. a 4-4-2 with him play more up.

FORZA AZZURRI

the problem is he needs match fitness and u can only get that in matches u play!

it is a problem but you have to do what is best for italy. if he doesnt start he will be subed in, in the second half.

either way we just hope Toni and Gila can get some good service and take there chances...

from what i've been seeing that wont be a problem. even in the friendlies toni dominated running down balls and controling the long balls, this year it is hard to stop him. i think he could easily be the leading scorer of the world cup.

Lippi reunion delights Appiah Sunday 11 June, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ghana star Stephen Appiah says he’s looking forward to taking on his former Juventus mentor Marcello Lippi on Monday.

The midfielder worked under the Italian national Coach in Turin before he was sold to Turkish giants Fenerbahce last summer.

And he’s eager to meet up with the tactician when Ghana take on the Azzurri in their opening World Cup match in Hanover.

“It will be a great joy to embrace Marcello Lippi again,” stated Appiah. “He was a very important Coach for me.”

The Ghana outfit do have knowledge of the Italian game as Sulley Ali Muntari and Samuel Kuffour play in Serie A with Udinese and Roma respectively.

The latter is eagerly looking forward to the tie after having a personal bet with his Giallorossi colleague Francesco Totti with regard to tomorrow night’s result.

“Totti and myself have had a little wager and I’ll be looking to collect after the game,” stated the former Bayern Munich man. “Even a draw will see me win…

“It will also be great to see my other teammates in the shape of Daniele De Rossi and Simone Perrotta.”

Although the Italian boys will start the tie as favourites against the World Cup virgins, they’ve been told that it won’t be easy.

“They’ll have to work hard if they want to beat us,” said Ghana boss Ratomir Dujkovic. “Nothing can be taken for granted in these Finals.

“Our objective is to reach the semi-finals and we can do that.”

I dont understand why Zaccardo is starting tommorrow ahead of Oddo. I can only think it's coz he's less attacking and is needed for more cover given that Camo will be pushing up compared to the left wing where de Rossi isnt expected to attck much but Grosso is.

I also think that if lippi decides to use DP ahead of Totti at any time, it should be in a 4-3-3 system. I've liked DP's performances at the left sided attack position

Lippi to wield axe?
Sunday 11 June, 2006
Marcello Lippi may opt to sensationally drop both Andrea Pirlo and Alberto Gilardino for Italy’s game against Ghana, whispers are suggesting.

Both men were being penciled in to start against the Africans in Hanover on Monday, but rumours coming out of the camp this evening suggest otherwise.

It is being claimed that the Milan duo will be omitted from the side and replaced by Simone Perrotta and Vincenzo Iaquinta.

Pirlo has had a difficult last six months with regard to form, but it was thought that he would keep his place in the side.

There is the possibility that Lippi would rather bring in Roma midfielder Perrotta to give a little more substance to the midfield, especially as Francesco Totti is still finding his way after injury.

With regards the possible exclusion of Gilardino, Lippi may be tempted to rest him in favour of Iaquinta.

The Udinese striker, a controversial selection for the final 23-man squad, impressed onlookers by grabbing a brace in the 5-1 win over the Duisburg Under-19 side on Friday night.

Lippi did suggest last week that he wouldn’t make a decision on his starting XI until Monday morning.

Italy possible: Buffon; Zaccardo, Nesta, Cannavaro, Grosso; Camoranesi, De Rossi, Perrotta; Totti; Toni, Iaquinta

i wouldn't understand him playing zaccardo over oddo too. zaccardo played horrible in the friendly game committing alot of foul because he was caught out of position. i think oddo is the better choice.
