Are you saying that a pseudo intellectual discussion on politics is less important than buying a car?

.oO('Mericans)
are you saying it's not? :p

in the US elections are often, almost always actually, won by the candidate, who lies better to the voters about the big tax-cuts he is gonna give them ... which naturally means more moneys in their pocket, which naturally extends to buying a nicer car.

So, all I did there was skip the mambo-jumbo in the middle and just went straight to the gist of it :)

The winner-take-all approach is kind of shoddy. But then coalitions representing proportions of the electorate aren't pretty either. (See: Greece.)

You haven't heard the voice messages left on my home phone.
exactly my dear friend, you cant fix human nature

you could have said that earlier and saved me that long post :p
i find it funny that those who knock down religion because of its emphasis on 'false' hope get excited about politics and econ lol

Using Greece as an example to why proportional representation isn't pretty is a bit far-fetched. Rather take a look at countries where the system continously has been reformed and has stronger pedigree and democratic tradition (and don't go all ancient greece on me :D). Greece is nothing but corruption and haven't been since 1974.

I aware tho, that the scandinavian system (arguably the best functioning) wouldn't work [as well] in 'Merica. The problem is that 'Merica's democracy isn't the best in the world, even tho a lot of 'mericans keep on saying it and believing it, and it like any other democracy continiously needs to have critical review of itself. Bush winning in 2000 :sergio:

The influence of money on the political scene in 'Merica has gone too far and is arguably a limit for the democracy and therefore the 'mericans beloved freedom. Yet I see no actions in that regard.

With that being said I'm not just a typical european looking down on the simple 'Mericans. I like the states and 'Mericans (especially those with an outlook on the world) - just can't stand the patriotic idea that 'merica is the greatest nation on earth. There's no such nation.

Regarding the voice messages. That shit should be illegal. Lock em up!

How dare you put economy in there? We might not be an exact science.

But we give hope, we really do ;)

Just think of capitalism - hope for a better day and a new flat screen.

I have to side with Vaclav Havel when he likened the American export and distribution of "democracy" to attempts at the packaging and distribution of global food products. Different markets present different environments with different needs. A lot of the foreign policy of the U.S. has thought to spread democracy, but largely a version that looks like and would largely only work domestically -- making little sense in the cultural contexts of other nations. Democracy isn't Coca-Cola.

It still amazes me that there are people here who want to close borders and preserve some kind of cultural and racial stasis here, as if those ideals weren't somehow counterproductive and run counter to the very reason that marked the nation's early success while other culturally homogeneous nations declined.

There's really no difference between Obama or Romney for you and I, unless you all of a sudden moved to 'Merica and got pregnant.
