Manchester United Linked With Trabelsi

08/04/2003. Manchester United have been linked with Ajax's Tunisian right-back Haten Trabelsi.

The international had a sensational season for the Amsterdam club last season, especially in their run to the Champions League quarter-finals.

However, Ronald Koeman's side would be reluctant to lose yet another star name after Andy van der Meyde and Cristian Chivu signed for Inter and Roma respectively.

The Sunday Express claimed the North African player could join Sir Alex Ferguson's side for £6m.

08/04/2003. Feyenoord's busy summer of transfer activity has continued this morning with the purchase of Egyptian midfielder Hossam Ghali.

The 21-year-old international has signed a four-year contract with the Dutch giants after impressing while on trial from Al Ahly.

Btw He is a Defensive Midfielder not a defender and he is a good one too. :D

You know him? That's great! Cause I read a message yesterday on vi.nl that Feyenoord bought this Egyptian defending midfielder as back up for Paul Bosvelt who left but I have no idea who this guy was.

You got a profile or anything?

Egyptian international and Ahly star, Hossam Ghaly is now a Feyenoord player after Chairman Van den Herik reached agreement on a transfer with the player’s club Al Ahly in Cairo Monday morning. Feyenoord and Ghaly had already agreed the terms of a four-year deal that includes an extra twelve-month option. Ghaly will remain in his homeland until the requisite papers are granted by the appropriate authorities. That typically takes around a fortnight.

Ghaly will be the fourth Egyptian to play in the Casino Erdevise after Haytham Farouk, Hazem Emam and finally Ahmed Hossam, Ajax former star.

The details were announced in the press conference attended by Mr. Van den Herik, Feyenoord’s chairman, Mr. Adly El Keiey and Ahly officials. Ghaly’s transfer is of a worth of 1.4 M Euros for 4 years and 15% to El-Ahly of any future transfer to any other club, in addition to Ghaly’s salary which is 350 000 Euros annually.

Negotiations started yesterday and the conflict was about Feyenoord’s offer, as it was 1.3 only but because Mr. Den Herik was keen to have the services of the Egyptian international, the deal was sealed and the transfer fee is augmented to 1.4 M Euros. Mr. Herik demonstrated his happiness about visiting Egypt and the generosity he find from the Ahly officials. He was also impressed about Ahly’s institutions, building and facilities saying it resembles what’s in the giant European clubs.

Ghaly demonstrated his happiness about a dream that became true, thanking El-Ahly administration, coaches and fans for supporting him all the past years. Ghaly promised to give a good image of his country. It is important to mention that Feyenoord is the title holder of the UEFA Cup.

NAME: Hossam Ghaly
AGE: 21
Birth Date: Dec 15 1981
POSITION: Defensive midfielder
PREVIOUS CLUBS: Ahly
CURRENT CLUB: Feyenoord

About Makaay to Bayern, I think he would be the perfect striker to partner Elber because Pizzo wasn't that impressive in Bayern's opening match in the Bundesliga (3-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt) .. along with Diesler and Ballack, Bayern would be the team to beat in the CL .. I was also impressed with Tobias Rau, he had a great debut with Bayern ..

I think Man Utd should go for VDV after loosing on Ronaldinho .. he's the next best thing in the current market ..

I agree on that in principle but this season it's not an option:

AJAX: VAN DER VAART NOT FOR SALE

For whomever didn't know it already: Ajax are not planning on selling Van der Vaart. Transfer guru Arie van Eijden denied claims from several English newspapers that Manchester United and Liverpool have started a bidding war for the talented youngster.

According to the English media, both clubs are about to make their first official offer to Ajax. "If that's true then they can save themselves the trouble", Van Eijden warned, "Ajax and Van der Vaart made a solid agreement. We upgraded his contract and increased his salary, he gave us his word to stay in Amsterdam for one more season at least."

The English media keep speculating. Today, there was talk about an offer from Liverpool as high as £ 15,000,000.00 or € 21.700.000,00 but Ajax keep denying.

Van der Vaart himself too stated he had no intentions of moving, "I gave the club my word that I'll stay at Ajax for at least one more season and I inted to stick to that. I think players should never leave the Netherlands at a too young age, the risks are too big"

The reports in the English media, to him, were just another piece of typical Anglican arrogance; "I am very well capable of letting my fans know if I'm considering a move myself, thank you very much"

Reassuring words for the fans of Dutch football. The brightest light in the Low Countries isn't going anywhere yet.

I read that article .. but if Man Utd really wanted him I believe Ajax would eventually accept a very high bid ..

I doubt that. They've already lost too many key players and loosing Van der Vaart would go against every objective they've set out for themselves for the coming season.

And with Van der Vaart himself stating that he wants to stay in Holland for one more season I doubt this will happen this summer.

Next summer he'll move though, I'm positive of that and I'm hoping he'll be moving to Turin ;)

Manchester United Confirm Veron Sale

08/06/2003. Manchester United have confirmed to the Stock Exchange this morning the sale of Juan Sebastian Veron to Chelsea for £15m.

The Argentine midfielder will complete his move to Stamford Bridge subject to agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.

The deal is set to go through before Thursday's Champions League deadline and will finally end a long running transfer saga.

"They have accepted our bid of £15m," confirmed Chelsea chief executive Trevor Birch.

"Now, providing he wishes to speak to us, we can proceed with negotiating personal terms and putting him through a medical."

£2.5m of the total fee is dependent on Chelsea's success over the next four seasons.

Veron joined United from Lazio for £28.1m two years ago, but has failed to find his best form in the Premiership. However, he produced a man of the match performance in the recent friendly victory against Juventus, which led Sir Alex Ferguson to insist the international was staying at Old Trafford.

The news comes just a day after Chelsea agreed a £6.6m fee with West Ham for England international Joe Cole.

Should the two deals go through it will take Roman Abramovich's spending to almost £60m following his takeover of the club in June.

Lazio have officially confirmed that Sergio Conceicao will play for them this season and assure Dejan Stankovic is going nowhere.

“It is with great pleasure that I announce the return of this Portuguese player to our ranks,” announced director general Luca Baraldi.

There were reports throughout the day that the former Inter man, who rescinded his contract with the San Siro side last week, was ready for this step.

“We are working on several different transfer deals, including this very important one regarding Conceicao, and are very proud to say he accepted.”

The winger shot to fame with Lazio in 1998, but has struggled for form in Serie A since leaving the Olimpico in 2000.

First Parma and now Inter have failed to get the best out of the Portuguese international and he will now play under Roberto Mancini’s orders.

Conceicao has signed a one-year contract said to be worth in the region of £600,000 per season.

Meanwhile, the Biancocelesti look set to sign another midfielder and a forward before tomorrow’s deadline for handing in their Champions’ League squad.

The preliminary round with Benfica will begin on August 13 and the team is still missing two players.

“We are waiting for Hidetoshi Nakata’s response,” added Baraldi in a radio interview. “At the latest he’ll give his answer tomorrow morning.”

The Parma midfielder is their main target following the collapse of negotiations for Udinese hero David Pizarro.

It was even reported that veteran Paolo Di Canio could make his return to the club, but the headlines surround the future of Dejan Stankovic.

“We are not worried,” insisted the director general. “We have faith in his professionalism and that of his agent.”

The row over his contract has been going for several months now and Juventus are ready to step in if there are any further setbacks.

“Stankovic is an important player for Lazio’s present and future. We just need to sit down and discuss it. I am sure a solution is close at hand.”

“In June we offered him a five-year contract worth £1.3m per season,” revealed Baraldi. “That’s a good deal at this time, but we cannot give much more than that.”

Great news about Sergio Conceicao returning to Lazio. Di Canio is also very close to joining too according to SA.

Lazio now need Nakata and I would be happy.

I wish those Lazio guys where smart enought to bring back Darko Kovacevic. He would be great now I think.
