1) Green Day and U2 do not belong within a mile of that list, it's beyond me how you would even put those 4 in the same box when it comes to musical importance.

2) I'm no Beatles fan, but all your high horsing about recent musical history turns leaves an aftertaste of bullshit when you deny the importance of The Beatles in modern musical history. As I said earlier, I'm no big fan of theirs though they have a few outstanding records, but if you look at the progression of rock and pop music after the Beatles they are unfuckable with, there's just no denying that.

3) I like all the bands you listed there, but I just don't see what you dislike about Queen. Impeccable composing, musicianship of the highest character coupled with a sound which was never heard of before Queen started. With your "realist" outlook on life, you sure do seem to be very subjective when it comes to definition of importance for the musical history.

I thought you'd be above trying to find an original source for anything, since you're an aspiring academic (you don't have masters yet IIRC) . It's impossible to find. You can't look at WW1 without looking at the 19th century , just like you can't look at the 19th without analyzing events in the 18th.

Same with Johnson, Delta Blues is a album which will ring in the halls of eternity (pathos overload), but I'm sure he wouldn't have made that album if he hadn't been inspired by the baptist choirs and slave hymns. My point is that you can't find the original source for anything - The Beatles are considered "mainstream" and therefore teh gayness, but what people tend to oversee is that they created that mainstream expression and the rest of the world embraced it.
