Was great seeing Savvy at the game tonight with his two boys! Hopefully his recovery is going well. And great to see Bergy practice with the team for a second straight day.
Hmm, what you think, Rollie? Perhaps the Bergeron injury was a blessing in disguise, hmm?
Absolute best case scenario, that could actually turn out to be the case. I guess it is possible. Would have preferred it wasn't Bergy, naturally.
It's hard to ever look at a situation where you lose your best/most versatile forward as a blessing... especially when it's a head injury, and the player has a history. We need Bergy back very, very badly. Desperately. He's far more important than Seguin to this series.
Seguin has been absolutely awesome in the first two games though; he's finally started to assert himself with the puck, making crisp plays and showing good poise in possession - instead of turning it over all the time.
His physicality has been much better the past two games (although it's nowhere near where it needs to be, or will be), and he's finally looking comfortable on the ice - like he belongs. There were a ton of games this year where he looked pretty lost, but that's to be expected with 19 year olds. That's also why he's been sitting; it's great to see that he's really used the time wisely, and worked hard on his game. I loved the kids interviews today; he's a team guy, really saying all the right things.
The speed and the hands were always evident. Damn, he looked good tonight. If he becomes a special player, this team could be a legitimate contender for quite awhile.
Kaberle also finally played a good game (even if the defense as a whole was brutal, Seidenberg made some especially terrible decisions). Much more confidence on the puck, his anticipation was better, there was less coasting. He shot the puck when it made sense, his entries into the offensive zone were smoother... he was just much better. I've always had a soft spot for the player, but he's been really disappointing to date; hopefully he finds his game now (and we get a discount in the summer?).
Anyway, the game on the whole was ugly, and Boston was particularly terrible defensively; also lucky on some penalty calls. This team is going to have to be much better in game 3; Tampa Bay has got a ton of high end quality. Hopefully we get some good news about Bergy on Thursday!
