Sheldon Souray's injury in the game vs Carolina yesterday was not the reported slash on the wrist by Corey Stillman. The reason for him leaving during the 1st period and not coming back for the rest of the game was a puck on a nut(sounds funny but must hurt like hell). Could play next game though.

I must have missed your post. On another board they said it was a slash on the wrist but I saw the replay and it was indeed a puck in the groin area or like they say in playoff time, a lower body injury.

Habs' captain Koivu out indefinitely

Canadian Press

4/27/2006 12:12:02 PM

MONTREAL (CP) - Montreal Canadiens captain Saku Koivu is out indefinitely due to an eye injury.

The star centre suffered the injury during Wednesday night's playoff loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. He was accidentally struck near the left eye by the stick of Hurricanes forward Justin Williams.

He remained in hospital Thursday.

"Other tests need to be carried out to see if or what damage has taken place," Montreal coach and GM Bob Gainey said Thursday after practice. "They won't be done until the next two or three days when the swelling subsides. He will be unavailable to our team for an undetermined period."

The Habs didn't say who will take Koivu's spot in the lineup, but recently recalled Andrei Kostitsyn and Jonathan Ferland from the AHL. Game 4 of the best-of-seven series is Friday in Montreal.

Koivu, who wears a visor, was breaking to the Carolina net early in the second period when rookie Chris Higgins fed him with a centring pass. Just as the puck was arriving, Williams appeared to try and lift Koivu's stick but instead hit him in the face.

Koivu was bleeding from the left eye area as he made his way gingerly to the bench and directly to the Canadiens dressing room.

There was no penalty called on the play, though referee Dennis La Rue was nearby and immediately blew the play dead at 4:52 of the second when he saw Koivu on the ice despite the fact Carolina had the puck and was breaking up ice.

Many in the Montreal dressing room afterwards had trouble understanding how LaRue missed the call, especially after Canadiens defenceman Mike Komisarek got nailed with a four-minute high-sticking call for an infraction on Cory Stillman with only 4:34 left to play in regulation.

"I didn't see a cut, it's not like (Stillman) needed stitches," said Canadiens centre Mike Ribeiro. "I think he bit his tongue. But they missed the one on Saku, and that one was more obvious than Stillman. If you give it with four minutes left, give the other one, too. But four minutes for biting the tongue? I don't get it."

Koivu, who signed a $14.25-million US, three-year contract extension on Feb. 11, had two assists in his two-plus playoff games. He had 62 points (17-45) in 72 games this season, his 10th NHL season, all with the Habs.

Big blow to the habs, Koivu is an unlucky guy. Injuries, illness...

No call on that play, that would have been a 4-minute PP and could of won us the game. We were leading 1-0 and Carolina tied it up in the 3rd.

oh yeah, Carolina scored in OT on a PP goal by Eric Staal.

Can't believe it's tied up 2-2 between the habs and Canes. A guy on TV after the habs were up 2-0 started singing "Sweep" Caroline. Must have jinxed it. Once again, 2 high sticks and no calls yesterday. Good news is that Bégin could be back tomorrow and Koivu's injury may not be that serious.

I feel really bad for Koivu. He's a top class professional and one of the most unlucky players I have ever seen. His battle with cancer was enough, however now he must struggle with an eye injury that perhaps could end his career. The man can just never get a break..

My Red Wings are now down 3-2 in the Series after a loss at the Joe in game 5. We have played like absolute shit and Manny Legace is simply not a starting goaltender for the biggest club in hockey. We have to beat Edmonton at their own game and somehow find a way to step up our pace and fight it out around the boards to win this series. It doesn't look fucking good.

After Lidstrom and you can add Schneider also, the D doesn't look good. The oils are too fast for you guys. Gonna be tough to win in Edmonton. I agree, Legace is not good enough for a team like Detroit. I'll go ask Gainey if he can help you guys for next year. We don't need Aebischer. :D

I was expecting a lot more from Shanahan(1st goal today), Zetterberg and Holmstrom.

side note, Arnott could be wearing a habs jersey next season. It's just a huch but he's good friends with Gainey and Carbo.

Andreas Lilja is absolute crap, and so is Lebda who is a mere rookie. I have no idea why Babcock is not playing Cory Cross as he is superior to both of those players, and while Kronwall looks good with the puck he has made too many defensive errors.

Too many giveways, too many easy goals let in by Legace, and not enough pace attacking the Oilers. This looks too similar to the Flames games of two years ago, and we need to grab a few early goals so the Oliers do not stack up in neutral zone and totally shut us out of the game. We also have to get our friggin power play going, fucking come on Wings.

Going to the game tonight. I'm praying like hell to Sainte-Anne de Beaupré(Jacques Demers did in 1993 and it worked) ;)

    GO HABS GO!!!

Andy, your Red Wongs really mucked me in this hockey pool. Now I lost Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Holmstrom, and I lost the chance of winning the pool by guessing a Ottawa vs. Detroit final with Detroit winning in six games. I'm so rattled.

NHL:s tio bästa européer genom tiderna, enligt Sports Illustrated: 1) Jaromir Jagr, Tjeckien, 2) Stan Mikita, Tjeckien, 3) Dominik Hasek, Tjeckien, 4) Peter Stastny, Tjeckien, 5) Jari Kurri, Finland, 6) Nicklas Lidström, Sverige, 7) Peter Forsberg, Sverige, 8) Börje Salming, Sverige, 9) Sergej Fedorov, Ryssland, 10) Mats Sundin, Sverige.

    -Dagens Nyheter
    ---------------------

According to Sports Illustrated, Jaromir Jagr is the most success european of all time in the NHL. The top four players are from the Czech Republic.

    1) Jaromir Jagr, Czech Rep., 2) Stan Mikita, Czech Rep., 3) Dominik Hasek, Czech Rep., , 4) Peter Stastny, Czech Rep., , 5) Jari Kurri, Finland, 6) Nicklas Lidström, Sweden, 7) Peter Forsberg, Sweden, 8) Börje Salming, Sweden, 9) Sergej Fedorov, Russia, 10) Mats Sundin, Sweden.

I'm not so sure about this list. I can agree with the Jagr's and Haseks place, but Mikita imo shouldn't be number 2 and Stastny shouldn't be in 4th. Federov should definately be moved up as well as Forsberg...
