Celtics needs to do this because of ITs hip, height, contract situation etc (plus you are the only team who legitly have the assets and the need). But it's still harsh on the guy because he was instrumental in recruiting Hayward to Celtics, and now he gets traded to Cavs shortly after. Brutal lol.

Meh, I stand by my comment that IT is just above average. Kyrie is levels above him, I just don't see why he wouldn't go west instead of going to Boston. They're not winning anything anytime soon.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics have agreed to a trade that will send Kyrie Irving to Boston in exchange for Isaiah Thomas, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical. Cleveland will also receive Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and Brooklyn's 2018 first-round pick in the deal.

 what a clusterfuck. The hell does Kyrie want to do in Boston?
you mean the most successful franchise in NBA history that is building and building momentum to get back to the very top?

fucking mystery, hey ...

True although don;t know about "harsh" - Cs were never giving IT a max deal, a rebuilding Cavs team (once Lebron is gone) would be a much better bet IT gets his money.

You do realize that the more they add to the team, the more the whole "not winning anything" thing goes out the window.

Just to make sure we are on the same page - Cs with Kyrie >>>> Cs without Kyrie.

My point is, Boston with Kyrie <<< Cavs without Kyrie.

Congrats on getting a good player tho.
Not sure if that's true. Everyone knows LeBron is leaving and that could well result in lack of focus and unity on that team. Cavs could well have a sub-par year because of that.

With or without Kyrie, Boston can't legitimately compete with GSW but with Cavs ... they may well have closed the gap, also for the reasons I mentioned above

- - - Updated - - -

Cleveland does not get worse in this deal

- - - Updated - - -

And they get that Brooklyn pick
My feelings about this trade will hinge on whether the Brooklyn pick is part of the deal. If it is, then Boston is giving up way too much for Kyrie, imo.
Hope the current tweeter rumors don't represent the actual details of the trade.

Nigga you wasnt even in Boston when bird plied his trade
(just saw this, nigga)

True, I wasn't but I was watching his ass play nevertheless :klin:

And relax, for me MJ is the best. By putting Russell over MJ (in terms of titles won), I was merely giving PI a clue that his constant changing of conditions/measures by which he would rank the top 5 players of all time would always result in chasing his own tail and contradicting himself.
That is, there is no cut-in-stone, self-consistent way of ranking the top 5, outside of maybe putting MJ at the top ... hence why I had said earlier that after MJ at 1, the next 4 players (Magic, Jabbar, Bird, Russell) could be put in any order and I wouldn't have any issue with it as each one of them came with his own merits.

I very much doubt that PI got my hint, though :p

I don't know, not feeling too pumped up about this deal.
Love Kyrie and think he never got the credit for carrying LeBron's ass so many times but that Brooklyn pick ... :depressed
If IT's hip is a potentially career-altering injury, then the trade is basically Kyrie for the Brooklyn pick and make-wights, which I could understand.
But if IT is just a couple of months from being back to his best, then the trade is Kyrie for an all-star in IT + BKN pick + makeweights and that's too much for me.
I know that IT was probably just a rental anyway (Cs were never giving him a max deal next year) but then again - no team would have been able to offer anything close to Boston, even excluding the 2018 BKN pick ... so, in a way, Boston were bidding vs themselves.

I can't believe you don't put LeBron on your top five. Shameless shit.
Before I put LeBron in the top-5, I'd put there the likes of Shaq, Kobe, Duncan and probably a few others I can;t think of right now.

LeBron's legacy is two-fold - career apg and 7 consecutive NBA finals. The former was achieved playing in an era of the NBA where the rules made the game a scoring competition with basically no legit defending going on.
The latter, last 5 of those finals were in a period where the East lacked any sort of even basic competition for a LeBron James, who was constantly playing on self-assembled super-teams in said period.
3-4 in NBA finals tells me those 7 consecutive NBA finals thru a shit-show of an Eastern Conference is a rather hollow stat.

So, NO, Lebron doesn't cut my top 5. In fact, he should count his blessings if he even makes it into my top-10 because I do have high standards ;)

good for both sides. Cs obviously had to do something, because they werent beating the Cavs in the current shape. they gave up their MVP candidate though so it remains to be seen how much this will make them better in the end. time will tell (i think we all agree Kyrie is a better player than IT, but there is also chemistry and the fact Kyrie was never THE MAN on a contender team ). Cavs get the pick for post Lebron, IT to replace Kyrie, a good rotation player in JC, and a talented young center also for post Lebron. now all they need is 3 1st picks and 2 4th picks in 4 years and they will have a good team again.

Highway robbery by the Cavs. Wow Ainge really fucked up.

The same pick he didn't want to give up for PG or Jimmy Butller.
He ended up giving for Kyrie + Isiah, Crowder and Zizic.

This is a great trade for the Cavs. they have IT bird rights, they can max him and Lebron next year if they want. And if they can get the guarantee that LBJ is staying, they can flip the brooklyn pick for a star midseason.

Jesus Christ. Cavs must be super excited. Stupid move, Boston. Seriously. And Zizic will be way better than most Euro centers. Fantastic potential.

Brad Stevens was far more instrumental than Thomas in bringing Hayward to Boston. By a country mile
